In the workplace, effectively communicating authentic appreciation and encouragement isn’t one-size-fits-all, nor is it restricted to a single language of appreciation. The best way to express your gratitude in the workplace starts with asking others their preferences so you can better relate to one another and deepen your relationships. There are five languages of workplace #appreciation : Words of Affirmation, Quality Time, Acts of Service, Tangible Gifts, and Appropriate Physical Touch. This week, let’s breakdown how to effectively communicate using them, actions you can take to support each style, and things to avoid. #3: ACTS OF SERVICE 🛠 How To Communicate With this language, actions speak louder than words. Actions To Take Help alleviate a colleague’s workload by offering your assistance, and then perform the service in a way the recipient wants it done. Use phrases like “I’ll help...” to let them know you’re with them and be clear about how much time you have to assist. Things To Avoid Not following through on tasks you promised to take care of. #leadership #communication …see more

What’s small and can fold? The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold. The last time I saw this PC was a prototype in Beijing. It was slightly scruffy and I pondered out loud out on how they will design the fold. Now it’s ready to be pushed to the wider market in 2020! It’s so pretty. I heard first hand how they developed and designed the fold. They are 11 layers that defines that fold! A certain bevel/gap is required to not break that fold. And to maintain its integrity, - separate keyboard slots into the screen. While the desktop is not dead, I found that our experience of work has becoming more remote and flexible. As I travel quite a bit, I want to have the least amount of “things” to bring with me. Which is why I got excited by this foldable PC. Our laptops are becoming smaller, more flexible. Even becoming more powerful. We can travel and work. We can work at home. We can do anything with tech that enable us to work and play. Follow me on Instagram, I’m taking over Lenovo Australia and New Zealand ’s Instagram account for the next few days at #CES2020 . #stringstory at #LenovoCES (Instagram: @LenovoANZ) …see more
Consuming or Creating? You're one or the other. On LinkedIn, we are here to share: 🍗 Value of ourselves 🍗 Our knowledge 🍗 Our expertise 🍗 Our thoughts Sometimes it's work-related, and others it's a personal journey about life. We're here on a weekend, building relationships. LinkedIn is not on a resume platform, it's a people platform. By the way, "Connection" is code for your list of audience. But how many are relevant to your business? I noticed that typical and old-school way of doing LinkedIn, where many are using it as a resume. They update it and then they forget about it. Your content is the new resume. A dynamic piece that showcases your expertise. If you're looking for a job or attracting clients, and your profile and content is sending out mixed-messaging. Well, be careful not to lose prospects. 🍗 LinkedIn is a content-drive place. Are you using content to reinforce your brand or expertise? Or are you consuming a competitor's content instead? The good news is that 1000s are reading their thoughts too. They are the one planting seeds for a better yield. What are you doing today? You know those conversations you have when you meet someone new and you get a bad feeling in the pit of your stomach? Like they aren't being honest with you, Or they just go on and on talking about themself? Or maybe they are one-uppers, And compare each of their accomplishments but their wins are always another level up? You smile and nod throughout the conversation, Knowing you'll likely never see eye to eye. *** With a lack of authenticity comes a lot of pain. I've been soaking up the wisdom of Brene Brown as I master the art of vulnerability in advocacy for inclusion and disability. If you're an orange tree fighting to produce lemons, You'll continue letting yourself down and You'll never be truly, authentically you. “Plants are more courageous than almost all human beings: an orange tree would rather die than produce lemons, whereas instead of dying the average person would rather be someone they are not.” ― Mokokoma Mokhonoana #authenticity #firstimpressions #socialselling #sales #relationships #vulnerability #gratitude #advocacy #disability #differentlyabled …see more
I just don’t think it’s constructive to try and pick a spot in this arbitrary capitalism/socialism spectrum. What I believe is we have to redefine our economy and re-write the rules so that it centers around us.

A clear case of product-market mismatch. Everyone may need it, and no one is going to pay for it! Seriously though, don't build a product without a monetization model. The only exception is when you build a product for fun, don't spend a lot of money, and it goes viral. When the cost of customer acquisition is so cheap and millions of people get addicted to the product, there will be alternate monetizations. Think WhatsApp. But this is very rare. #creativity #customerrelations #business …see more

Utterly heartbreaking... 💔💔💔 How do we stop this happening? We listen, we read, we learn, we educate and, most importantly, we act. As my dear friend Anu Omideyi says, “An ally calls it out EVERY day - “every single micro aggression, every bit of discrimination, every prejudice in action. Because the big actions start with little actions and the little actions start with thoughts. Unfortunately it happens every day. We have to think about this every day. And it really needs EVERYONE to call it out, especially our white counterparts because it’s too easily dismissed when only minorities call it out.” 🎥 via Bella Hadid …see more
