Twitter and other social media platforms are not online therapy. Don't use social media to get things off your chest. That is not it's purpose. As a platform for thoughtful activism? Yes, social media is easy, convenient and useful. As a tool to share or learn new information? Absolutely. There's nothing like it for up to the minute everything. As a way to rant? No. That's bad for the image. Remember, the internet is forever. And if you disagree I have two words for you to consider - screen grab. These days, the delete button is more a concept than a sure thing. #KellyeMedia …see more
Great start of the week for The Aspen Institute : Two of the #HealthyCommunities Fellows had their OpEd commentaries posted on the Aspen Institute Blog! Maria Valenzuela's moving story begins with a broken arm in Mexico, having her uncle remove it with a big scary knife, moving to the U.S. two days later and then breaking the same arm again. Her account of navigating the health care system for her mother and family friends as a young immigrant girl, and then as a teen in the foster system, fueled her path to a career helping immigrant families find appropriate, quality care. She is≠ now the Program Director for the Esperança Inc International Health Organization in Phoenix, Arizona. Until recently, the 406 students from Pelinia, a remote village in the Drochia district of northern #Moldova , had no #toilets inside their school building. Like many buildings across the country, there was no sewerage system installed, which left them having to brave all sorts of weather to simply use the bathroom. The lack of running water also meant the simple outdoor facilities were often unhygienic. In 2017, 40-year old history teacher, ludmila turcanu ( https://lnkd.in/dyh5brg ) herself from Pelinia and a graduate from its local school, along with four other female teachers and a student decided to change this situation. I'm so glad that Kenyan journalist mary mwendwa wrote this story about her difficult journey to remote Isiolo town, to report on the impact of #Kenya 's ongoing nursing strikes. Global debates about the role or value of #journalism often lose sight of the main reason most of us joined the profession. While the politicians debate health funding and policy, Mwendwa endured a 9-hour bus trip on mostly rough roads to be a firsthand witness to the empty clinics in Merti. She was able to speak with the woman who was bleeding heavily at home, basically just waiting to die, because there was nowhere for her to seek help. The Washington Post has adopted the slogan, "Democracy Dies In Darkness." Around the world, millions of people die without ever having their challenges acknowledged. Journalists like Mary Mwendwa are committed to giving some of them a voice. i am more and more convinced that the ethereum eco-system and defi in particular are laying the foundations to the financial services infrastructure of tomorrow. who will benefit and “control” it i am still trying to figure out. major risk is country bans of defi protocols (which would no kill innovation but alter it significantly).
