I don't know when ageist, misogynistic name bullying became a thing and acceptable, but it would be really awesome it that would stop. Someone's mother, daughter, sister, relative, friend is named Karen. Or Susan. Or Jenny. Or Sally. As someone who has personally been name bullied for years, I can tell you that it's not "cool" or "socially acceptable". It's ignorant, and hurtful. If you're using the Karen meme/reference (or Susan, or any other name), I kindly ask you to stop. If you see others doing that, please take the time to educate them that it's not OK to make people feel ashamed of their name, and kindly ask them to stop. #kindness #humanity #dobetter …see more
One of the worst things that a leader can do is take their extraordinary employees and their success for granted. Nothing happens by accident, and your best people will always have options elsewhere #leadership #dobetter
Be mindful of liminal moments. Liminal moments are transitions from one thing to the other throughout our day. These are the moments when you’re looking at a social media app while walking from one meeting to the next- only to keep scrolling when you get back to your desk. There’s nothing wrong with spending a few minutes on your phone per se. What’s dangerous is that these “just for a second” actions can turn into things we later regret, like getting off track for half an hour. Here’s a technique I use 👇 It’s called the ten-minute rule. If I find myself wanting to check my phone when I can’t think of anything better to do, I tell myself it’s fine to give in...after ten minutes This rule allows time to do what some behavioral psychologists call “surfing the urge" When an urge takes hold, noticing the sensations and riding them like a wave—neither pushing them away nor acting on them—helps us cope until the feelings subside. This technique is effective at helping me deal with all sorts of potential distractions like eating something unhealthy when I’m bored, or watching another episode on Netflix when I’m “too tired to go to bed.” Have you tried the ten-minute rule? How else do you deal with urges that can lead towards distraction? #Indistractable #Behavior #Health …see more
I recently co-hosted a live Webinar with Vanessa Van Edwards from Science of People . I covered a variety of topics, including: - Why “time management” is really pain management - A science based path to greater focus and follow-through - How to make your life “indistractable” ...and why it's not as simple as vowing to stop using our devices. In fact, research reveals that abstinence can backfire and make us want to use our technology more! Afterwards, there was also a brief Q&A! Check out the full video at Vanessa’s YouTube channel (link in the comments below!) #Indistractable #ScienceofPeople #HumanBehavior #TimeManagement #Webinar …see more

As we approach 2019, we're updating our brand at CityLife to match the growth we've seen in our company. We're dropping the "app" from our name - not because we're any less enthusiastic about our platform for developing native apps for cities - but because we've added so much more to the way we work with cities. Whether it's collaborating on blockchain projects or deploying voice assistants, we're more aware than ever of the need to provide more inclusive solutions that help cities use today's new technologies to better engage and serve their communities. I'm so proud of our new logo and our shortened name. We're still the same team with the same depth of expertise and experience. …see more
