The biggest problem with workplace productivity is mental. We think about productivity all wrong. We think that if we can tick three or five more items off our To Do list, we're really doing a great job! We measure, value and reward the wrong things. We praise people who work the fastest, instead of the people who work the smartest and that's a big mistake! …see more

What are the best gift ideas for new college grads in your life? Cash is always appreciated, especially with that first student loan payment looming, but these might be better: *Your connections. (Building and nourishing a strong network should be an ongoing goal for all of us, and you can help out with a few thoughtful introductions.) *Your restraint. (Now is NOT the time to offload those dreadful platitudes about "Follow your passion!" and "Do what you love!" Resist, I beg of you.) *Your job leads. (Our chances of getting a job improve dramatically when we know someone on the inside. Keep your eyes open for opportunities for the new grads you know.) *Your perspective. (Someone's first job is only that: a starting point. It will not determine the rest of their career. It will pay the bills and get them valuable experience.) *Your commitment. (Make these new grads a valuable part of your network. Someday they may be happy to lend you a hand.) *Your confidence they'll land on their feet. (They don't need your anxiety; they're already in a panic. Strive to be a calming presence during a very intense and anxious time; that might be the best present of all.) …see more
My parents told me about this today only 12% of people want to return the precise same normal as before. (piece is a few months old) Which raises an interesting question, knowing what you know now, what would you like to change, keep or not resort back to, and how do you fight for that? https://lnkd.in/d79r5A9 …see more

Everyone knows this famous advice from Simon Sinek 's 2009 TED talk: "People don't buy what you do; they buy why you do it." We can all quote it. We've all read (or pretended to) Start With Why. But the second part of this quote is more important than the first: “People don't buy what you do; they buy why you do it. And what you do simply proves what you believe." What you do PROVES what you believe. Actions are louder than words. As we near #InternationalWomensDay , and as I continue to work on this passion project documentary and book about the rise of lip service, pandering, and virtue-signaling by brands, I'm looking for real action in addition to words. How are brands supporting women 365 days a year, outside of Women's History Month? And, DESPITE it being Women's History Month? Thank you in advance to everyone who's been sending me the campaigns that are catching their attention this year - some that are pandering, some that are fantastic. International Women's Day is March 8th. Here come the campaigns! Send me yours: katie@katie-martell.com #iwd2020 #IWD20 #eachforequal …see more

I can honestly say that when this picture was taken on Netflix 's IPO day, I didn't think it would be seen again, let alone attached to an article about Marc Randolph 's excellent new book "That Will Never Work" about the founding and very early days of Netflix (you should buy it, btw). And btw, he's 100% right. The entire time I was there our mentality was that of a startup. …see more
