It's so easy to simply drift through life. To let other people dictate your priorities. To know deep down what's really important, but never take the time to follow through. Don't do it. (Today's column: Thurs.July 20.2017) …see more
Everyone loses control of emotions at some point; that doesn't mean you're not emotionally intelligent. (Today's column: Wed.Apr 5.2017)
It's far too easy to easy to compare ourselves with others, but those comparisons are often unhealthy and self-defeating. Today's column (Mon.Jan 16.2016) shares a more productive philosophy, courtesy of Celtics' head coach Brad Stevens.

My Hong Kong-based colleague Kevin Sneader was interviewed by the FT recently about his plans to reshape McKinsey once he takes the helm as our next global managing partner. “From July 1 he will be in charge of the world’s biggest partnership—a sprawling business with 2,000 partners and 28,000 staff across 65 countries that has registered breakneck growth over the past decade, doubling revenues to $10bn.” “His first big shift has been to overhaul McKinsey’s leadership team to ensure a better gender and geographical balance. The new team of 15 McKinsey partners includes five women whereas previously it had one. It is also less heavily skewed towards partners from the Western Hemisphere, and includes the heads of six regions: Europe, Latin America, China, Asia ex-China, North America, and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa. This is the first time China has been treated as a stand-alone region—a strong indication of where Mr. Sneader sees growth potential for the firm.” (Registration required/paywall) #McKinsey #consulting #China …see more

“137 million Americans will travel home this holiday season,” begins one ad. “44% of LGBTQ people feel they can’t come home as their true selves.” “...Pantene's partnership with GLAAD for this campaign also includes a pledge to donate $100,000 to Family Equality, a group dedicated to making sure LGBTQ people have the same opportunities and parental rights as heterosexual couples.” …see more
89k people have "storyteller" in their LinkedIn bio, 55k in the US. Of those with #marketing in their title, nearly 6k describe themselves as a "storyteller." I was asked to weigh in on an interesting debate over this term (link in comments.) While I agree "storytelling" is a risky way to position #contentmarketing (it threatens to undervalue the function and may contribute to the marketing perception problem) I do know it's core to the responsibility. My take: Business value and storytelling are not mutually exclusive... What do you think? …see more

Looks like Freshworks is seeking to "disrupt the incumbent" Salesforce at #DF18 with a taste of old-school Benioff-style marketing stunts (blimps, protest, etc.) If you're on-site, have you seen it? "We have reached a point in SaaS where a small fraction of an incumbent is a billion-dollar company. If you start a business tomorrow that is able to cleave 1% of revenue from Salesforce, you will have built a billion-dollar business...." #failsforce #dreamforce https://lnkd.in/e8vvTzf …see more
