We are currently evaluating the Digital Health Playbook that The American Medical Association created. It's a wonderful idea and good implementation. As I'm also working on an article about the role of medical associations in the age of digital health, I'd love to hear what roles you think medical associations have in the lives of medical professionals in the 21st century. #medicine #healthcare #digitalhealth …see more
I've recently shared what I learnt while having my genome sequences by Dante Labs and I got an interesting email from Patrick Merel , founder of Portable Genomics, about the privacy concerns he had about my data. He argues that my data is not safe. I argued that the service is HIPAA compliant and it's good enough for me. Where do you stand on this matter? #genomics #dna #digitalhealth #privacy …see more
I loved challenging 4000 medical educators, deans and professors about the need for a new Hippocratic Oath that meets the expectations of the 21st century. The Hippocratic Oath is the most famous text in Western medicine and constitutes the ethical basis of the medical profession. For centuries, it has provided an overview of the principles of this noble mission and doctors’ professional behavior. At the dawn of a new era in medicine, it is high time to rewrite the Oath so that it would reflect the state of technological development, changes in social structures and in general, the requirements of the 21st century. I look for medical schools that would be brave enough to introduce the new wording. https://lnkd.in/gZte2RR #meded #medicine #future #digitalhealth #oath20 …see more

Don't miss NEW EPISODE with Jon Ronson! 🎙 He writes about #psychopaths. He created a test called "The Psychopath Test." And wrote about it. I had him on to learn what it means to be mad. He told me how to spot the signs (and how it starts to haunt you). He also told me stories. Lots of them. About kids trapped in mental hospitals. Secret cults planning to take over the world. His #writingstyle is sort of humorist meets gonzo-esque #journalism. He puts himself directly in the center of a conspiracy. That's where this episode will take you...into the mind of a psychopath. http://9nl.es/605 …see more

When Sanjay Gupta was a child, his family experienced a traumatic event: Gupta's father was mugged. A horrible experience, for sure. But years later, when Gupta related the story to a teacher, the teacher related a lesson that Gupta hadn't previously considered: Bad guys may be able to steal your possessions. But they can't take your mind. In the decades since, that lesson has resonated as Gupta has gone on to become an accomplished neurosurgeon and serve as CNN's chief medical correspondent. But Gupta also drew another conclusion from his work: While others may not be able to steal your mind, that doesn't mean you'll use your mind to the full. In his new book, Keep Sharp: Build a Better Brain at Any Age, Gupta shares his learnings and experience on how make your brain "better, faster, fitter, and sharper": 1. Move 2. Discover 3. Relax 4. Nourish 5. Connect (Read the details in today's column.) #intelligence #leadership #management #sanjaygupta #CNN #KeepSharp #growthmindset #emotionalintelligence #eqapplied #MakeEmotionsWorkForYouNotAgainstYou …see more
"You need to use your head instead of your heart." Have you ever heard that advice? On the surface, it might seem legit. After all, we've all made emotional decisions that we later regret. But emotional intelligence is much more nuanced than this cliche suggests. Using your EQ effectively isn’t about eliminating emotion, it’s about finding balance. After all, as humans we're emotional creatures--that's a good thing. Our emotions--even the ones that don't feel good (like sadness and anger)--can motivate us to take action when needed. So, remember: Emotional intelligence isn't head over heart. It's head AND heart, together, in harmony. NBA star Steph Curry said yesterday that his comments that man has never been to the moon have been blown way out of proportion. He also said that he would “one thousand percent” be taking NASA up on its invitation to tour the lunar lab at the Johnson Space Center in Houston. By accepting NASA's invite, Curry is encouraging young people to do their own research, to become informed, and to think for themselves. I learned lots about the power of good feedback from one of my first bosses. Marc was quick to commend and focus on the positive, which gained our trust. This made it easier to listen when he told us something we needed to improve. The key: We felt Marc cared about us as individuals, beyond what happened at work. Once you’ve established a certain level of trust in a relationship, you can be more straightforward when the time comes to offer constructive feedback. Since the recipient already sees you as someone on their side, they’re more likely to understand that what you share is in their best interests. Learning to give great feedback—both positive and negative—completely alters the effect you have on others. You’re not the clueless boss who doesn’t “get” your people, the spouse or parent who’s impossible to please. Instead, you’re the one looking out for those under your care, the one who’s got their backs, the one who makes them better. (Read more on the power of effective feedback in my new book: "EQ Applied: The Real-World Guide to Emotional Intelligence.") https://amzn.to/2sxFLho #EmotionalIntelligence #leadership #management #PersonalDevelopment #BestAdvice #BusinessIntelligence #careers #culture #EQApplied #MakeEmotionsWorkForYouNotAgainstYou …see more
