Nextdoor is missing a big feature: Marketplace for Neighbor-to-Neighbor Services. Assume there's a place on Nextdoor that you can specifically post a need for a grocery pick up (this is great for seniors during the pandemic), dog sitter, dog walker, short-ride in the neighborhood, or gardener. Then someone in your neighborhood can accept your "job/request". The booking, payment, and messagings all should happen through Nextdoor. Two questions: 1) Would you use this as a feature on Nextdoor to "post" requests/jobs? 2) Would you use this as a feature on Nextdoor to "pick up" jobs/requests to help neighbors (and perhaps make some money)? Please share your thoughts and respond to the questions above (example you can say: Yes to #1 or Maybe to #2) #productfeatures #productideas #pandemic #socialbusiness #peertopeer …see more
Since When Do We Play ‘Quid Pro Quo’ with Basic Healthcare? No job? No Health Care. Sorry. Our U.S. Administration does not care if you are an American. Can’t pay? Can’t work? No Health Care for you. Your screwed. Bummer for you. “Community engagement requirements (meaning—you have a job and you are working) are not some subversive attempt to just kick people off of Medicaid," Seema Verma, head of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services...” and yet 4,300 people were denied their medical coverage in Arkansas alone in one month—because of this rule. So I would submit a counter-point: “Uh...apparently it is.” Arkansas became the first state, in Medicaid's 53-year history, to strip coverage from beneficiaries for not meeting work requirements. And next up is Indiana and New Hampshire (What happened to the State’s motto of ‘Live Free or Die?’ Maybe the revised state motto should be “Forced to Work or Die from Lack Of Health Care.) If you don’t feel a chill down your spine then you don’t grasp the far reaching nature of this governmental over-reach. What’s next? Gotta prove you don’t have a pre-existing condition or that you don’t over eat? Yikes. #healthcare #paytolive …see more
Painful Choices: your medicine or your rent Many Americans are forced to decide if they can afford needed medication because drug prices are so high. This is no good. This article highlights trends-and concrete steps-Americans can take to reduce the cost of prescription medication. Selected Excerpt: “Seeing a patient give up needed medication or struggle to pay for food or housing because of high drug costs is devastating,” says Marvin M. Lipman, M.D., Consumer Reports’ chief medical adviser. “While it’s not always possible to limit those costs, it often is.” …see more
It pains us all to see how COVID has disrupted care for chronic conditions. To prevent further negative effects, providers are increasingly partnering with IT and digital health companies. Mount Sinai’s example of implementing telemedicine solutions to care for cancer patients are a result of such efforts. We need more healthcare institutions to follow suit. #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology …see more

When it comes to comfort, 3D printed casts are light-years ahead of traditional plaster casts - they are lightweight, waterproof, removable, customisable, and so on - and cool. Still, their adoption is painfully low, and you would also have trouble getting one if you need a cast. What's in the way? We just asked experts dedicating their careers to it, and I also summarize the status of 3D printed casts in this video. If there's one thing I do as a futurist, it's thinking about the future. As for the future of my presentations and meetings, I settled for virtual at least until Summer 2021. If you took part in Zoom meetings and webinars, you might have realized that switching to virtual has its difficulties and annoyances, with a lot of muddling and amateurism - to say the least of it. To avoid this, we have to learn an entirely new profession (that extremely few do): of online streamers. As I've studied streamers for this purpose for months now, I've drawn enough lessons for an article about what medical events could learn from them (it's coming next week). Of about 20 virtual presentations by now, I concluded with delight that my possibilities for delivering my messages have multiplied! I can merge the potentials in YouTube videos, streams and keynotes at the same time: enhance the show with new graphics, switch between shots for emphasis and show what's otherwise not visible. Maybe I'll feel more anxious and defenseless before I present in person for the first time. For now, it's just fun to open such new worlds! #DigitalHealth #DigitalHealthKeynote #FutureOfHealthcare #FutureOfMedicine #HealthcareKeynote …see more
This is a great illustration of how significant the cultural transformation with digital health is. Lancet Digital Health published an editorial addressing the issue of race to end health inequalities. They stated that racial and gender bias represent a significant problem in digital health, and even digital health approaches have contributed to these disparities by not considering race or ethnicity. "For example, melanoma diagnostic apps trained on images of white skin have difficulty detecting cancerous skin lesions in darker skin. Even failing to sufficiently account for variables that are correlated with race, such as health-care expenditure, can create a wedge between health needs and care received. When race clearly plays a causative role in health outcomes it should be incorporated into digital health approaches to prevent bias." And here, at pointing to a serious flaw, science stopped so far. What practical ideas would you give us and Lancet to fight racial injustice in digital health? We, at The Medical Futurist , support these efforts, and I hope that we could come up with relevant analyses or research soon. There are interesting initiatives that involve A.I. in some form in the fight against COVID-19. 1) Google just launched the COVID-19 Research Explorer, a semantic search interface which includes more than 50,000 journal articles and preprints to help scientists and researchers pore through articles for answers or evidence to COVID-19 questions. https://lnkd.in/gpQauXx 2) At MIT, there is a group of machine learning and life science researchers who are collaborating on developing machine learning methods for finding promising antiviral molecules for COVID-19 and other emerging pathogens. https://lnkd.in/gndZ9TB 3) Cure-19 offers an at-home clinical trials platform to patients with or without coronavirus symptoms. By joining their studies, patients can help researchers make new discoveries by donating their anonymized symptom and health data to research. https://www.cure19.org / It's incredible to see how many A.I.-based projects come out of the shadow and this trend might indicate that the attention the medical uses of A.I. should have been receiving already is here to stay. #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #COVID19 #COVID_19 #coronavirus #AI #artificialintelligence #deeplearning #machinelearning …see more

Just some examples of what you can 3D print within a few minutes, for a few dollars. The phone case, the bacteriophage, and the cube were created at Makerspace Budapest, the skull is made for preoperative surgical planning by Stoke Med , the pills were printed by FabRx , and the bear was a present for my daughter's birth by EXOVITE , a company specialized on 3D printed casts. The bear is not fluffy, yet cute and the most original of the genre. Have you ever printed out anything unique for yourself or your brand? What would you use this technology for?
