The #coronavirus scare threatens to throw the world into a global recession as workers and consumers stay home. But smart businesses that use online technology can not only survive, but thrive, Ning Wang , co-founder and chief business officer of Chinese payments processor PingPong tells me. In fact, he says the pandemic could speed up the adoption of digital platforms, virtual reality and more. Here’s the view from #China . …see more
When talking about artificial intelligence, beyond the hype and breathless anticipation lies the reality. Lawmakers are blazing over worker pay and benefits for #GigEconomy workers, with #Uber and #Lyft at the top of their hit list. All one has to do is look at the regulated #taxi industry to see the great hypocrisy of their claims — an industry, that for decades, hasn’t given a whit about the wages or well-being of its independent taxi drivers. It’s why those attacks have little to do with worker pay, and everything to do with something else instead. Here’s what — and why. …see more
The news last week that #PayPal withdrew its support of #Libra is the first overt sign that the Libra Association member foundation is cracking. The path that Libra is now on was wholly predictable — and a lesson for every innovator with a great idea and a not-so-great ignition strategy. Here are four lessons to be learned from Libra’s experience to date, and what its future might hold. Take a read. …see more
The gig economy includes about 35% of the workforce — on its way to 50%, some say, in just the next two years. The tailwinds that will fuel this growth are the gig economy’s “long tail” and marketplaces that aggregate specialized workers like nurses, lab techs, computer scientists, teachers and even lawyers, CFOs and architects. For digital payments players to cash in on the $1.2T digital payments opportunity that they’re missing today, they might want to pay heed to the entrepreneur who invented the gig worker concept some 72 years ago. …see more

Socializing post #metoo ! Two Random but interesting experiences. 1) My daughter (19) gets invited out to dinner with her boss and multiple colleagues. She does not know I will be there or other colleagues will be as well. She freaks out about how to respond to said boss. I actually know she has been invited and wanted her to respond herself. I casually ask her about the dinner. She sighs with relief and says, I thought it was a #metoo moment. #goodgrief 2) I am last woman with one guy left at bar after a small gathering of 1st time meeting associates at a conference. Guy asks if it is OK if he stays even though everyone else has left. I say no problem. We are still in a bar full of other people. I couldn't believe the rest of the party was leaving! :) I have never had anyone ask at a work conference before. It's always just assumed that it's OK to stay. #newworld #manners #howitshouldbe #metoo #radicalcpa #cpas #cpafirm …see more

(All opinions are solely mine and do not reflect the views of my employer) It should not have taken a lawsuit against the city of San Francisco to do the right thing: take care of our fellow humans. After literal years of inaction, I'm very happy to see this, and await the actual results. We have every means available at our disposal to eradicate homelessness - let's relentlessly focus on doing so. #dobetter #equality #societyandculture …see more
I've posted this before, but doing so given that it has been by far the most impactful growth coaching element of my career: "Instead of saying 'I can't', always start with 'I can'" Thanks Arvind Sethuraman for helping me grow. Seven years later, I haven't forgotten and won't. Let's all start with "What can we do to accomplish whatever is in front of us?". Because when we say "I can't", we've automatically failed. #leadership …see more
When it comes to managing digital distractions, the least helpful thing we can do is make excuses. When people talk about tech overuse, they talk about how human brains have been hardwired the same way for thousands of years. They claim that large Silicon Valley companies use our psychology against us to keep us engaged and distracted. Nonsense. There are all kinds of things we learn to adapt to. It’s called growing up. Plenty of feelings like jealousy or anger are natural parts of psychology, but you know what? We’re expected to learn how to manage those feelings. We have to adapt and adopt. Adapt our behavior and adopt new technologies to fix the problems of the last generation of technology. I recently spoke to Baz Ashmawy on The Good, The Baz and The Ugly Podcast about: • How to manage digital distraction • The inaccurate messages of #TheSocialDilemma • And more! I’ve included a link to the episode in the comments section! How have you handled digital distraction this year? I got a chance to speak with Roisín Dervish-O'Kane on the Going for Goal Podcast! As we’ve sheltered in place, many of us are starting to realize exactly how difficult it can be to transition to working from home. Our responsibilities have remained the same, but now we’re handling heightened stress and experiencing burnout. The good news is that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. There are some valuable techniques we can all use to live on our own terms and control our attention. Give the episode a listen and let me know what you think in the comments!
