What’s the least favorite item on my daily “to do” list? Writing the list in the first place, of course. Just thinking about it makes my shoulders tense up. That’s why I’m so intrigued by the idea of a “did it” list. Even the name makes me smile, because it suggests the sheer enthusiasm we felt as children when we experienced an achievement (large or small) and shouted “I DID IT!” Along the way to adulthood most of us lose the sense of joy that can come from getting something done. What if we wrote that dreaded list as a victory lap, thinking about what we’d celebrate getting done? What would you feel really good about accomplishing by the end of the day? What would make your boss happy? What task has been hanging over your head like a baby grand piano? Have been asked for my take on the gay Oreo #proudparent ad (link in comments if you haven’t seen it.) Love the story. Moving + beautifully made. But, I went through this exact heart wrenching journey of coming out, seeking acceptance from parents, wanting nothing more than to be told, “we love you, you’re OK.” That feels... trivialized. Can we talk about envy for a minute? What a waste of time, emotion, and potential. Envy prevents us from collaboration. It hinders our ability to celebrate, or often achieve, even our own goals and achievements. It threatens relationships that could be mutually beneficial, and is entirely unnecessary. One of the reasons I was so excited to consult with A llocadia was the chance to work with founders K ristine Steuart and K atherine Berry, who set a fantastic example for the tech industry related to equality. Today on #IWD2017 they share some impressive stats: A 46% female workforce, 39% of which holds technical roles, more than 50%+ female board, 33% female leadership team, and 43% female managers throughout the business.
