I’m actually jealous It doesn’t happen often, and never when talking about medicine or healthcare, but I’m jealous of those citizens who are already receiving the COVID-19 vaccination. So says the first recipient: “I can finally look forward to spending time with my family and friends in the new year after being on my own for most of the year.” That’s the feeling I want to have—joy, relief, self-respect and duty to my country. Good behavior with mask wearing and good citizenship are normal parts of my behavior when it comes to COVID-19, and it takes effort—I’ve got my many masks on me all the time, hand sanitizer handy. I’m weighing going (and not going) to stores, movies, not hugging friend, not going into their homes and on it goes. And I’ll keep doing all of these things but it is getting harder to do—I mean who doesn’t want to have a cozy meal with friends? I trust science and medicine—over the last 150 years, modern healthcare has done more to improve our lifespan than any other factors—clean water, clean sanitation, antibiotics, vaccinations, dental health, are the cornerstone to our collective health and why we now live past the age of 50. So when my time comes to get vaccinated, I’ll put on my Sunday Best, roll-up my sleeve and proudly get injected. …see more

Recapturing Impulsiveness: Big Food Wants You Back There was a huge surge in sales of packaged food in mid-March including loads of snack foods like chips and cookies—and the Big Food Companies want to keep it that way. Data from the research firm Nielsen that tracked Americans’ grocery buying from March to May bore this out. Campbell’s reaped a 93 percent increase in sales of its canned soup, General Mills, breakfast cereal jumped to 37 percent in the third week of April and Americans continue to by 51 percent more frozen waffles, pancakes and French toast from Kellogg’s. And so on. Tricky advertising will continue since the Companies are on the record: They want to ‘Recapture Impulsiveness.’ Which means getting the consumer to purchase fundamentally unhealthy and non-valuable foods. Don’t do it. Don’t allow these times of uncertainty get under your skin—literally. Highly processed foods are called ‘food stuff’ for a reason—because they are not real food. And these fake foods will ‘up’ your blood pressure, weight, and cholesterol if they become part of a daily diet. Eating well is another way to protect your health. I say Recapture The Joy of Fruits and Vegetables! …see more
Dear Demonstrators: Please Take Care of Your Health. Healthcare Professionals are trained to be unbiased and non-judgemental. We are trained to be focused on our patient’s health and welfare and to care for all patients equally and with the same compassion and humanity. During this time of an unprecedented humanitarian medical threat, healthcare professionals also recognize the humanitarian threat to dignity and basic human rights. As a nurse, I want to advise all of my American Citizens—who are all ‘patients in waiting,’ —to please, please, wear a mask, and use hand sanitizer while demonstrating. We want you to remain healthy and strong. America needs you healthy so you can put Her on a path of Being Her Best and so each Citizen can Become Their Best Self. …see more
Tell Me How This Helps America? According to the Georgetown University, the number of uninsured children increased by more than 400,000 and is due in large part to policies championed by the Trump administration and Republicans in Congress. Everyone—and I mean everyone—says ‘Children are our future.’ And it is often the rallying cry at the beginning of many debates and protests. Take education or climate change or infrastructure—When politicians or parents or policy makers talk on these subjects the reasons ‘why’ we should make changes and improvements is for our kids and grand kids. So how does it make any sense to then to allow these very same kids to go without proper medicine, and doctors visits and immunizations and medical check-ups? How are they to live their best lives and ensure our ongoing success if they are malnourished, or ill from childhood disease? Honestly, ensuring kids have healthcare is not only a ‘no-brainer,’ it’s the only kind, decent, American (and spiritual) action to take. …see more
