Over the last year or two, anytime I would bring up Pinterest as a marketing channel to explore I’ve been met with curious glances. But here you have a site where Pinners are either actively shopping or actively showing future purchase intent (explicitly and implicitly). If your target audience is on Pinterest, it would seem like a no brainer. Another great thing they do is share knowledge with advertisers like trends based on data from their site. And now they’re sharing this thoughtful doc which helps to lay out how to think about marketing during/post-pandemic and how to plan for it. Again, based on data. A mea culpa/piece of advice because it's important to rememberĀ reactions are just as important as actions.Ā  A few weeks ago, I had a run-in in a Facebook Group I belonged to that is an extension of a newsletter that I subscribe to (and have from its beginning - I'm an avid reader and advocate). An admin in the group made a slightly snide comment about something I shared. My reaction? I deleted the share, left the group, and wrote a thinly veiled, yet nasty ā€œbusiness lessonā€ piece on Medium about the encounter. To be clear, the comment by the admin shouldn’t have happened and he has since apologized. But what I did in the wake of that shouldn’t have happened either. At Netflix , if you had an issue with someone and complained to your boss about them, the immediate question was, ā€œWhat did they say when you spoke to them about it?ā€ This was a not-so-subtle way to say ā€˜deal with your situation properly, like an adult.’ In hindsight, I realize that I failed to live up to that goal. What I should have done was reach out, told him how his comments came across and given him a chance to react. Instead I ā€œtook my toys and went home.ā€ Not a good look. So, don’t react immediately.
