This was a hypothetical question posed by my eldest son that someone might ask me in 10 or 20 years’ time, say one of my grandchildren I don’t have yet. I knew what he meant and where he was going with this but the second part of that question when I would answer “I was put on Furlough Leave” would be “what did you do while you were on furlough leave?” This got me thinking and strangely this whole period whilst catastrophic for some who may have lost loved ones, jobs or suffered with mental health issues etc. has perversely had some positives for me. Amazon is about to unveil a bunch of new Alexa-powered smart home devices. Soon, the richest man in the world will know where you are, what you're doing, what you want to do, where you want to go, how happy/sad you are, how tired you probably are, and your pulse. Hmm...
This is the test of all tests. Is this a more efficient use of marketing dollars? Is the in-home online experience better? Is it worth $30? So many lessons here.
If you're wondering what to do with all of your empty Amazon boxes and packaging materials, wonder no more. (Clearly, Jeff Bezos has gotten in touch with his inner kid.)
Considering the recent focus on systemic inequality of opportunity, this is a great time to concentrate on the creation of new jobs for manual non-repetitive workers.
If you need a new computer, go buy one. If you don't, don't. In a perfect world, all of your favorite software will work with Apple's new ARM-based chips… or it won't. "This is the way."
I don’t know if this exercise will change your future, but I do know that going through it will put you in touch with who you really are and what you really want. Good luck.
