I have a good friend who's tasked with encouraging his colleagues (company is just under 200 people) to adopt a fresh vision for their brand, and some evolved messaging. Do you have advice and/or resources? Tips? #advice #marketing #branding

I was quoted today in CustomerThink about #events : "Attendees make time to travel to events in order to pick their heads up from day-to-day work and discover the narratives that shape their realities back in the office. That brings a level of expectation with it. I believe brands have a responsibility to these attendees to continue to push the agenda of their industries." In his latest piece, warning marketers of the upcoming recession, Samuel Scott pulls no punches. Cut your content (that isn't aligned to a larger campaign), delete your social media (that's a bit harsh, Sam but point well taken) and focus on core strengths and creativity. Seeking referrals: Looking to connect with #b2b telemarketing firms, those that work lists by phone and queue up qualified conversations at scale for firms (e.g. event invitations, surveys, whitepaper/content delivery). Note: Not looking to debate whether these firms are good/bad for us and the industry -- happy to do that another time. Thanks in advance for your recommendations here. #telemarketing #marketing #leadgeneration #referrals #leads #leadgen …see more

Does the 'Digital Marketer' really exist? One POV, "The digital marketer job title has become irrelevant. Following the copying of Instagram Stories (itself a copy of Snap Inc. ) to Facebook (duh), LinkedIn (what?), and Twitter (why?), Snapchat has now launched a feature that copies TikTok . The thing is, all these companies seem to be chasing that sweet, sweet engagement without stepping back to see if a particular feature adds or detracts from the user experience. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like that when everyone copies everyone else, no one is unique. At which point all of this merely feels like an attempt to stop user attrition. #socialmedia #instagram #snapchat #facebook #linkedin #twitter #tiktok #ux #copycat #stopthemadness …see more

I was just scrolling through the Apple iPhone Shortcuts app and saw they had one for saving a song for later called "Add to Queue" which made me pause. It is interesting to see how everyone now just accepts that the 'queue' means adding media to a list because that wasn't always the case. Back in the early days at Netflix , no one was using it that way. And while it didn't really line up with the definition or common usage of the word in English, it was unique and considered to be an "ownable" brand asset here in the United States. Again, "ownable" meaning no one here was using it in that way. Because no one was using it that way we had to constantly educate prospective members as to what the Queue was. And there were always discussions about changing it. But any company could have a "movie list" so it remained in use. As the company grew over the years, so too did the adoption of that use of the word. Competitors and even non-movie related companies used it to mean the same thing. Which is how we arrived at having that be the default for "add media to a list." Of course, since Netflix has become a global streaming service, they've moved to "My List" but the effects of using Queue as a brand asset appear to be rather long-lasting. #apple #netflix #queue #brandassets #brand …see more

This is very smart. The larger takeaway here is that companies need to find new ways to expand their reach beyond paid marketing. By creating a plant-based cooking school, Eat Just, Inc. has done just that. #brandbuilding #plantbased #plantbasedfoods #marketing #brandmarketing #paidmarketing #brandstrategy #brand …see more

I saw someone tweet out “People don’t want a relationship with brands.” But that’s looking at the concept from the wrong angle. Yes, if you ask a consumer if they want a relationship with a brand you’re likely to get a strange look and a swift, “no.” But that still doesn’t negate the fact that, when done properly, consumers do build connections with brands. The way this connection is established is by the company knowing and consistently applying its brand positioning to everything they do. For example, at Netflix, our brand promise (in the content aggregation phase) was “Movie enjoyment made easy.” Notice how it doesn’t say ‘movie renting made ease?’ That’s because we wanted people to connect us with the end-benefit, not the transaction. You’ll also notice the end-benefit has an emotional component to it - enjoyment. This guided everything we did. And by applying it consistently, it helped create a tremendous connection between our members and the company. #brand #brandpositioning #brands #brandpromise …see more

This is impressive. My friend Dale Pearson is a man of many talents. In addition to creating wine without grapes and teaching himself to play the saxophone, he has a blasting business that removes surfaces from buildings. He holds several patents including one for this new machine that he created in response to COVID-19. The Sterigun creates atmospheres that disinfect huge areas in minutes with no damage to materials or surfaces. Everything from businesses to schools to event spaces to even planes can be sterilized and ready to go in a fraction of the time. Nicely done, Dale! #disinfecting #covid19 #coronavirus #patents #virus #innovation #disinfect #surfaces …see more
