None of us can get through this (or anything else) alone. As social animals we need each other. When we find the courage to admit that we're struggling, ask for help or accept help when it is offered, we become stronger. It also opens a door for others to let us in to help them, too. The courage to go first then be there when others follow is what leadership is all about. …see more

In our modern, fast moving, digital world, too many of us either took truly human connections for granted or falsely believed we could stay connected with devices. The silver lining in all this is the reminder of the value of a phone call, a human voice, being physically near someone, a friendly handshake and a warm embrace. "Dreams always come from behind you, not right between your eyes. It sneaks up on you. But when you have a dream, it doesn't often come at you screaming in your face, "This is who you are, this is what you must be for the rest of your life." Sometimes a dream almost whispers. And I've always said to my kids, the hardest thing to listen to—your instincts, your human personal intuition—always whispers; it never shouts. Very hard to hear. So you have to every day of your lives be ready to hear what whispers in your ear; it very rarely shouts. And if you can listen to the whisper, and if it tickles your heart, and it's something you think you want to do for the rest of your life, then that is going to be what you do for the rest of your life, and we will benefit from everything you do." - Steven Spielberg #passion #listentothewhispers #findyourwhy #startwithwhy #liveyourwhy …see more

True service often includes giving something away that we value. Time, energy, missed opportunities and sometimes our lives. Some call this sacrifice. But not those who serve. For them, it was no sacrifice at all. It was a gift worth giving. Gen Stan McChrystal, author of Team of Teams, has a particular fondness for those who give quietly. No broadcast. No bragging. I don't know who wrote this, but it's beautiful.. ♥️ We fell asleep in one world, and woke up in another. Suddenly Disney is out of magic, Paris is no longer romantic, New York doesn't stand up anymore, the Chinese wall is no longer a fortress, and Mecca is empty. Hugs & kisses suddenly become weapons, and not visiting parents & friends becomes an act of love. Suddenly you realise that power, beauty & money are worthless, and can't get you the oxygen you're fighting for. The world continues its life and it is beautiful. It only puts humans in cages. I think it's sending us a message: "You are not necessary. The air, earth, water and sky without you are fine. When you come back, remember that you are my guests. Reducing expectations to zero is a powerful thought; it doesn't mean you give up. It means it frees you from fear and failure. Also, no expectations mean you free yourself from external recognition to validate your work and achievements. I read a beautiful story yesterday & wanted to share. Once Krishna & Balram were walking through a dense forest. It was scary, full of fierce animals & demons. Suddenly a demon came before them. Balram was petrified & asked fearfully, "Who are you?" The demon answered, "I am a demon the size of your #fear ". Hearing this Balram was even more scared & the demon grew bigger. The bigger he grew the more scared Balram was. Seeing him grow Balram fainted. Then demon turned his attention to Krishna. He said, "I am demon the size of your fear." Krishna looked at him nonchalantly & started playing his flute. The demon grew smaller & smaller till he disappeared. When Balram got up, he realised his #mistake . We live in scary times today & need to let our #faith win over fears. Let's make a conscious effort to have our faith in good things in life. 1) Meditate & keep calm - Your positive energies can make your immunity higher 2) Relax - Listen to music, dance or do what makes you happy 3) Hear, say & listen to good things. 4) Spend time with people who uplift you instead of those who bring you down 5) Stay safe but be kind & loving too. When a plane takes off, it takes off into the wind. For the first 5-15 mins it’s goal is only to gain altitude, to trim its wing to be more efficient and go further, to get to what it’s made to do, fly. The distance covered in that time is often in the wrong direction or not far. It doesn’t matter in the scheme of things . In a non patronizing way, this always seems like how people should think of the first jobs in their career. The good news? Ask any successful business leader, manager, parent, soldier, preacher, teacher or health care provider and they will tell you this: You will never achieve success unless you have looked into the abyss of failure, made your peace with it, respect it for the test it made you take and above all moved on and upward. For each generation the test is different that is why you can't study for it, you just have to take it. Its called experience and you can't achieve success without it. HOW TO FIND SUCCESS LATE IN LIFE:  There's a simple answer: do whatever you want. Then it all adds up. If you try to get 1% better each day at your health, at your relationships and the way you treat people, at your creativity, and at turning despair into gratitude, then that 1% compounds into an amazing person. Do that 1%. Take one action. Even if the actions is for one minute. The 1/1/1 strategy. I know this. Because I'm still compounding. What is 1%? Whatever you want it to be. The math of life is multi-dimensional. What happens to amazing people? Everything happens to them. And you never worry about what you accomplish. Because there is no ONE thing. There is EVERY thing. And every day. Here are some people who accomplished things late in life. I admire all of them. Anthropologist Margaret Mead was asked by a student what she considered to be the first sign of civilization in a #culture . The student expected Mead to talk about fishhook, or clay pots, or grinding stones. But no. Mead said that the first sign of civilization is #compassion . A femur (thighbone) that had been broken and then healed was discovered from an ancient culture 15,000 years ago. Mead explained that in the animal kingdom if you break your leg, you die. You cannot run from danger, get to the river for a drink, or hunt for food. You are meat for prowling beasts. No animal survives a broken leg long enough for the bone to heal. A broken femur that has healed is evidence that someone has taken time to stay with the one who fell, has bound up the wound, has carried the person to safety and has tended the person through recovery. “Helping someone else through difficulty is where civilization starts,” Margaret Mead said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, #committed citizens can’t #change the world; For, indeed, that's all who ever have.” We are at our best when we serve others.
