I sense a lot of companies are rather lost. What is the role of your company in people's lives? What does it stand for? What would the world miss out on if you vanished? What about you means you can do that very well? These are big questions many companies can't answer. It's expensive making brilliant things people don't want. It's stupid relying on "test and learn" as a corporate development strategy. Stand for something. Make a few simple brilliant things or experiences very well. Listening to people. Understanding people. Being introspective. All things that pay back massively. …see more
"Nobody takes you seriously!" 🛑 Negative messages don't really get to me. But what does get to me is when I see other creators quit because of them. People will always have an opinion on the things that you create. It's important to note that 1). YOU need to be clear on your target audience. And 2). people's opinions, outside of your target audience, don't pay your bills. If what you're doing is working for you, then keep doing it. If it's not, do something else. I'm always very vocal when it comes to defending creators because it takes a lot to be able to step out and create. But also because I understand that in order to standout now, and in the future, people need to share their stories and what makes them unique. Keep putting yourself out there. #justQ 🖖🏽🖤 …see more
I am going to produce my first podcast in 2018. And I don't need to wait until....I get a job. Or a funder. Or a "life." Because the life I've lived is all I need. It's rich, even when I'm broke. It's interesting, even when I'm bored. I'm very smart. I've been many places. I've seen many things. And I'm a member of the Journalism and Women Symposium (JAWS) . Which means I have something important to say, and I'm not afraid to say it. #jaws17 #JAWS #women #journalism #mentoring #podcasting #JAWdessesRule …see more
Will Smith desperately needed advice. He was terrified about something he was about to do. He said, “So I have to visit the master.” He called Dave Chappelle. His challenge: to do three minutes of standup comedy at a comedy club. I get it. When I had to do six minutes the first time, I thought I was going to DIE. . . . #writing #lifestyle #cancelculture #comedy …see more
We had the TV age, then the PC age, then the Mobile age and everyone wonders what will kill the phone and be the next platform. The watch? The headset? Maybe nothing will. Maybe the next era will just be understanding that we've different black screens that are all functionally identical, new inputs like voice, new sensors and the platform we build off is the ecosystem it creates, not a device. …see more
Fundraising is a critical aspect of building and growing a business. It is a journey which presents the founder with a lot of questions: 1. What is the right time to seek an investor? 2. What should the founder look for in an investor? 3. What is the amount of capital to be raised? 4. What is the most effective way to cultivate a potential investor? These decisions are crucial and can define the future of a company. Having been on both sides of the table, I would love to share my experience and perspective. Join me and ask your questions on #fundraising on 12th July, 2018. …see more

A few years back, I watched a professor ask a class "If there are two equally qualified 27-year old candidates and the only difference was their gender, who should you hire?" 10 minutes in, the whole class agreed that there was no "better" candidate. The professor proceeded to tell us that the woman may be thinking about kids and go on maternity leave at that age. He started to call the woman at one point "the risk" and the lesson was to mitigate risk in hiring. His argument was that women are inherently risky investments, even when all the data shows otherwise. This month, I kept thinking back to this one lesson in college, equating risk to women. And now with a female Vice President-elect, I can't help but be excited for a future when women are able to prove this lesson wrong. …see more

“After I am gone, no single person will be able completely to represent me,” he said. “But a little bit of me will live in many of you. If each puts the cause first and himself last, the vacuum will to a large extent be filled.”
Leaders with resilience create better organisational outcomes. No one inherits this trait; it is learned & earned. A key-point I noticed is misplaced irritability, a pitfall to watch out for. Stress can make the best of us channel irritability to those around us & do lasting damage. When I'm under intense stress, I try to avoid it by 1. Being self-reflective & quiet 2. Compartmentalising stress by dropping emotional baggage as fast as possible 3. Ask myself: Is this worth brooding & spending my time on? Do I have the power to alter the situation? What is the root of my dissatisfaction? …see more
I was born in India. This is part of my story. Here I am at 3 years old - curious, spunky, and clueless as to what the future would hold. When I was 9, my family immigrated to the United States. It was tough. My parents came to a foreign land and had no connections, no money, and two little kids to feed. As I looked around, I saw their struggles. I didn’t want to add to them, but I was struggling. I had no friends. I was often bullied and felt like a cultural misfit. Enter Communities in School who had a special program for “kids like me” - and it’s one of those programs that you often hear about but don’t always fully understand the impact. Today, as a successful entrepreneur, I get to give back. I’ve partnered with Vibha and CIS to give back so hopefully other kids like me can find a ray of hope in their own darkness. I’m matching every single donation AND for every comment left on this post, I’ll donate $10 on your behalf. Link is in the comment. Whether you donate or not, all I ask for is your attention to this cause. Because, yes, it makes a difference. I’m proof. 🙏🏽 Update: Together, we raised over $80k for kids in need! Thank you!💗 …see more
