what to make of c-banks taking on more responsibilities, over and above their core monetary remit, and for some their regulatory remit. is there a danger for “free markets”. c-banks are already doing such a stellar job...

i do echo that sentiment. i think the US credit card business is so darn profitable that about every incumbent actor in payments does not want change, does not feel the need for change in the US. #payments #fintech …see more

One thing I’ve learned over the years is to diversify interests. Read a lot. Sure, your could follow Dan Runcie and Trapital to learn what’s happening in hip hop. That’s valuable on its own. But the gold is in the insights that Dan pulls which can be applied to most other industries. …see more

President Trump is scheduled to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Saturday to discuss a possible resolution to their ongoing trade war. One factor that could be pushing the president toward a deal: His trade policies are broadly unpopular with American voters. A new survey conducted for The New York Times by SurveyMonkey finds that a majority of Americans think the trade fight with China will be bad for the United States. There's a big partisan split -- Democrats and independents oppose the tariffs by a wide margin, while Republicans overwhelmingly support the president's approach. But even most Republicans think the trade war will raise prices. Will any of this matter in 2020? Hard to say. Trade doesn't generally rank high on voters' lists of top issues. It hardly even came up at the first Democratic presidential debate. But if the trade war starts to damage the broader American economy, then all bets are off. When GTP-3 was first released by OpenAI , it was used to generate some rather realistic articles. But soon after was used to write code, create a Figma plug-in that allows for UI design via a simple written description, and even was used in an A/B test for headline writing. So, while it may seem like a neat word-based tool now, I suspect graphic design and marketing messaging development is going drastically change in the next 5 years, if not sooner. #AL #ML #artificialintelligence #machinelearning #figma #openai #futureofwork #design #UX #UI …see more

As a follow up to my post yesterday about how the first-day glitches won't matter. The Walt Disney Company 's Disney+ signed up 10 million subscribers in just 1 day. Sure, we'll have to see how many are actually paying subscribers out of the gate, what conversion rates are like from free trial to paid, and what retention looks like, but if I worked at Disney+ I would be feeling pretty dang good about that launch. Even with the technical hiccups. #disney #disneyplus #streaming #subscription #netflix #amazonprimevideo …see more
