If you were to build your company on making something that has always been complex and make it simple, you'd probably have way more success that trying to make something new that people don't yet do. By now we were supposed to have paperless offices, yet we print more than ever. I'm incensed by how many forms I have to fill in by hand, and I'm sure nobody can read my writing. People still ask team members to fill in Excel charts and then spend hours collating them. It can take 10 emails to set up a meeting because some people don't use shared calendars. I can either pay $100 for a hotel in London with a 1 second swipe on Hotel Tonight, or get the same room for $300 using Amex Travel and have 4 people send 8 emails to approve it. From conference calls that require 20 digits to enter, to scanning in receipts, we need more companies that offer slick contemporary solutions. And more companies to enthusiastically embrace them. …see more

Fact: More men need to support women. We're a part of Women's Entrepreneurship Week in Milwaukee this year for three main reasons. ▪️ Change needs to happen. ▪️ We're super intentional about our culture and as we grow we want to have diverse voices on our team, so that we can be better as a team. We need more women to do that. ▪️ Reread the first sentence of this post. At events/weeks like this men often feel like they're not included and I want to challenge every dude out there (especially if you're in Milwaukee) to do the following: ▪️ Go to more female organized events (I'll put the link to the week below) ▪️ Take a minute or two to send your appreciation out to the women in your network that are absolutely crushing it out there. Christina Haidemenos , Jackie Hermes , Jenny Weeden : thank you for being so legit and planning such an awesome week. Whose crushing it in your network? #justQ 🖖🏽🖤 #21Challenge …see more

I love how small companies use WhatsApp . This transaction with Hertz would have involved calling a call center and being on hold for 30 mins to wait to speak to someone, then 10 mins as they called the local branch. Everyone always thinks the future of customer service is chatbots, AI, some zendesk nonsense or XAAS software. But it’s just being able to use WhatsApp and having humans. Finding a way to scale this is key. Large companies have done this well on Twitter but have never tried with Text …see more
🛑 Can we STOP using the word community in exchange for how many followers we have. 🛑 ✔️ A community is a place for people to gather. ✔️ It's a place where people can feel safe. ✔️ Where they can share, get value, and bring value. If someone hits the "like" button on your content that doesn't mean they are a part of your community. It means they liked your content. That's it. You have to work to get them in your community. You have to give them a reason to be in your community. A like is just a like. A community is a part of the journey. Who are some epic community builders that you follow? I want to interview some for our podcast! #justQ 🖖🏾🖤 #entrepreneurship #business …see more

Google recently made a huge announcement that could change the future of work and higher education: It's launching a selection of professional courses that teach candidates how to perform in-demand jobs. Each new certificate program only takes 6 months to complete, and will only be a fraction of the cost of college. The 3 new programs, together with the median annual wage for each position (as quoted by Google), are: Project Manager ($93,000) Data Analyst ($66,000) UX Designer ($75,000) "College degrees are out of reach for many Americans, and you shouldn't need a college diploma to have economic security," writes Kent Walker, SVP of Global Affairs at Google. "In our own hiring, we will now treat these new career certificates as the equivalent of a four-year degree for related roles." It’s amazing how little discussion there has been about the models we used to alter the livelihoods of 3 billion people. The ILO says 2 billion people alone have lost an average of 60% of their income. This is the model most global decisions were used to form global policy. It’s the projected death rate in Sweden with various measures and the actual. There comes a time when it’s important to accept a model wasn’t right, served a purpose, and to rethink. Amazed this isn’t discussed more. Science is based on expertise, data and debate. For some reason all sensible debate is being labeled “granny killing” and instead incredible problems are hitting the world is less direct ways. Everything from undiagnosed cancer deaths, famine, suicide, mental health issues, domestic abuse, lost education, this is not a clear cut thing. But it’s lives vs lives not lives vs the economy . When things get complex and uncertain and confusing, more , more, not less discussion is needed …see more

My most vehement belief is that Ad Tech is currently hurting advertising. One day it will help a lot. But for the moment it's a group of people spending their entire time capturing (other's) success in a spreadsheet and tasked only with selfishly claiming credit. The actual success typically created elsewhere. Last touch attribution, moving more money to performance media, ever narrower targeting appears to be working and it's killing our profession and user experience. I wish we could go back to bold ideas, human insights, gut feel and creativity. Aided by data, not obsessed with it. …see more

We are in the midst of the holiday season! As we approach the new year, I want to reflect on all that has happened in the past twelve months. I had a chance to travel the world, visiting beautiful countries like The United Kingdom, Australia, Thailand, and others! I released my second book, Indistractable, to an outpouring of support from all over the world. I had the opportunity to serve and impact many people through my work, resulting in recognition as a LinkedIn Top Voice in Tech for 2019 and nominations for other accolades. Above all else, I began to take back control of my attention, my time, and my life, leading to countless memories made with my family, friends, and loved ones. Through it all, I have emerged endlessly grateful for all that I am able to do and enjoy on a daily basis. I will continue to approach my work and my relationships with the same optimism that I have in the past. 2019 has been great! I have a feeling that 2020 will be even better. To you, my digital community, I say thank you for an incredible year. Happy Holidays and Happy New Year! I’ll see you in 2020! 👋 #Indistractable #HappyHolidays #Gratitude #Reflection …see more

The greatest problem in business is that people are torturing numbers and data for tactical answers, when they need imagination and empathy to build a vision. Business has become utterly lost, clueless and directionless, and craves reassurance of best practice or spreadsheets, rather than the confidence of understanding and the wonder of progress from robust debate from diverse minds. The answers come from people, from listening, from things you can't measure, not from a pivot table. …see more
