Cruise is going to be testing self-driving cars (without anyone behind the wheel) in San Francisco shortly. Not that the sunny, flat, and wide streets of Phoenix aren't a challenge but this city will be a true real-world test. Waymo who is already everywhere in the SF Bay Area still has folks behind the wheel here. #selfdriving #selfdrivingcars #waymo #cruise #driverlesscars #driverlessvehicles …see more

“In each of these countries, deep informational divides separate one part of the electorate from the rest. Some voters live in a so-called populist bubble, where they hear nationalist and xenophobic messages, learn to distrust fact-based media and evidence-based science, and become receptive to conspiracy theories and suspicious of democratic institutions. Others read and hear completely different media, respect different authorities, and search for a different sort of news. Whatever the advantages of these other bubbles, their rules render the people in them incapable of understanding or speaking with those outside of them.” …see more

There are so many crises occurring in America at the moment, it's hard to decide which one to focus on. But reading just now that the Trump Administration plans to implement a change in welfare policies that could end free lunches for a half million schoolchildren absolutely breaks my heart. It reminds me of when I was covering #welfarereform in Congress back in 1996, and felt compelled to testify about my own childhood of government subsidized food stuffs and free lunches. I just couldn't be an objective journalist about an issue that had fundamentally shaped my early life. This column, published in The Washington Post on the day President Bill Clinton signed the Welfare Reform bill, almost cost me my job. Looking back, it was also the moment I decided I would never give up my right to use my voice. #journalism #childpoverty #socialissues #childwelfare …see more
