If you're an entrepreneur — this is what we signed up for. Pain. Risk. Struggle. Uncertainty. Responsibility. Yes, COVID-19 sucks. But it doesn't matter if it's a good thing or a bad thing. It's a thing. Now we have to figure it out. That's what it means to be an entrepreneur. #justQ 🖖🏽🖤 #business #entrepreneurship …see more

I love the Oxford comma. I'd like to formally nominate it as the best punctuation in 2019. For those who don't know, it's the comma before the and/or in a list (i.e. LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter) Some say it's unnecessary. I say it adds clarity in (admittedly rare) situations. …see more

Sara Blakely shares her thoughts on how to build a brighter future of education as part of Big Change ’s #NewEducationStory series. As Sara mentioned, education should give young people the tools to learn ‘how’ to think, not just ‘what’ to think.

“To disagree silently is disloyal.” Reed Hastings. I was very very lucky to get to go to TED for 2 days . Enjoyed it a lot. Some more of quotes I loved. “When things are clearly defined, we forget. It’s the tension of ambiguity that makes us care” Walter Hood “He who has the “why” to live. Can bear almost any “how”” Nietzsche ( as used by Simone George) …see more

I admire this man and so wish he and others like him were held up as examples to aspire to. That this empathy, problem solving and understanding that lifting others up makes all of us better, was applauded. I wish journalists and influencers were clamoring to get an interview with him rather than someone who recently took a company public or reached a million followers on TikTok. We value hard work and sacrifice but ONLY if they result in a financial measure of success. We are missing so many true heroes and too often, driven to pursuits that fill our pockets rather than our souls. …see more

“Honestly, I’ve been working a lot on myself and getting my mental health in check.” I asked a friend recently how she was doing in her business, and was a little taken back by this answer. There was almost an internal sigh of “me too” which she spoke about working on her own happiness. I didn't feel the same pressure to "show off" how much I work or how long my hours are. I actually found myself smiling more. The competitive #hustle mentality becomes unhealthy so quickly. Putting on events about mental health like Impact Mentality and talking more about it these past couple of months has made me realize how many people are struggling to just keep okay. When was the last time you thought about the state of your mental resilience? #mentalhealth #resiliency #entrepreneurship #hardwork …see more

On United Nations #WorldChildrensDay, a memory: I was born in poverty in America, the 9th of 10 children, in a town where people with my skin color were expected to stay in the shadows. But I could dream, and I managed to build the future of my dreams. I even dreamed my way to an Internally Displaced Persons camp in Northern #Uganda, on July 7, 2007, where I was helping radio journalists learn how to gather sound and interview residents to produce feature stories. I will never forget the joy and exuberance of children in those horrific settings. It was probably because the weird looking, funny talking brown lady from far away was trying to play along with them. Spending time with those kids lifted my spirits tremendously. I've often considered that day, 7/7/07, one of the luckiest of my life. To bear witness to the depth and strength of human will, in a way I could have never imagined a few months earlier, changed me forever. It made me vow to spend the rest of my days trying to leave something positive in my wake. On #WorldChildrensDay, let's take a moment to consider how our children view the world, and what we're doing help shape their vision. …see more

Thanks to The New York Times and Nellie Bowles for the feature on Indistractable recently. It’s not exactly what I tried to impart, but that’s okay. Some corrections - I never said no one gets addicted, I said not everyone gets addicted. Big difference! I also never said it was the user’s fault, I said controlling tech is our responsibility! Check it out at the link in the comments below and be sure to share your thoughts on this topic! #Indistractable #NYT #Tech #SiliconValley #HumanBehavior …see more

Unless you want to burn out, you need to learn an essential #leadership lesson: protect your #time . Here's how: Establish #boundaries Maintaining a healthy balance by making it clear that you'll respond to work messages during business hours and within a day. Learn to say no Become more discerning with your time. Saying no to the people and things that don't support your goals will give you more time to say yes to those that do. Empower your team Trust the smart folks you've hired to do their jobs without you and keep you in the loop, freeing you up to focus on what matters most. Resist the urge to multi-task Multi-tasking destroys #clarity , which is essential for #productivity . When you're working, be singularly focused on it; when you're not, be fully present in your non-work activity. Eliminate distractions Turn off notifications, click out of tabs, put your phone on airplane mode, close your door or use noise-canceling headphones. Do whatever it takes to help you focus on the matter at hand. Work with your body's natural rhythms Block out your peak for your most important work and save mundane tasks for later. Carve out non-negotiable time for what matters most Replenish yourself with whatever (or whomever) fills your tank, and make that time non-negotiable. …see more

Believe me, I’m waiting for COVID-19 to end as much as you. However, in order to get back to our lives, we must vaccinate at least 60% of the world. There’s no other way. I find the example of Israel outstanding, where 12% of the population got vaccinated within 2 weeks. They’re defrosting the vaccines in 6 hour blocks with a vaccination plan. If any vaccine gets left behind because of a no-show, a volunteer can go and get that shot, thus minimizing wasted vaccines. If I worked at a hospital, I’d run to grab my vaccine TODAY. We’ll continue to live with COVID for a very long time if we don’t do so. #getyourvaccine #getvaccinated #vaccineswork #stopmisinformation #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #COVID19 #COVID_19 #coronavirus …see more

It finally happened. Amazon just launched a health service for its own employees. Some Amazon employees and their families in Seattle now have access to a new app called Amazon Care, a program that provides users with access to health professionals over video chat and text. They want to cut cost and obviously want to get into the healthcare business with their logistics and their technological background. They have zero experience in health regulations and healthcare in general, but I would sweat a bit more now as a CEO of a healthcare organization. #amazon #healthcare #digitalhealth #technology …see more
