If you were going to be miserable, the three most common types of "disruption" and "innovation" are. 1) Exploiting the grey areas of the law. E.g Airbnb, Uber, Bird, Enron, Juul, and hoping for the best. 2) Getting lots of VC money and burning it with a pretty bad business model but hoping to sell to a large incumbent sucker or to IPO then run. E.g Dollar Shave Club, FitBit, Glossier, Allbirds, WeWork 3) Having a platform and not taking any responsibility for staff or content . E.g Facebook, Care . com, TaskRabbit, Uber. The idea disruption comes from a Clayton Christensen style " lower cost due to tech" is largely nonsense. It's mainly just lots of small bets, some of which win for a time. …see more

Some key insights from Mary Meeker's Internet Trends Report 2019, which are relevant for Indian #startups - 1. India has 12% of the total Internet users. Much of this adoption is driven by telecom operations, such as Jio which grew 2X in a year reaching 307 million subscribers. Affordable data plans and suite of bundled apps ensure that India is now “almost constantly” online. 2. Pictures and videos are becoming the default mode of communication. And mobiles are the devices of choice. 3. CACs are going up but can’t exceed LTV for very long. Currently, there are an estimated 521 million Hindi speakers and 500 million other Indian language speakers in India. With over 125 million English speakers in India, less than 0.3 million of those speak English as their first language. The rest, speak in one or more of the 22 vernacular languages. 2019 is the year I lost my little brother. It will always be one of the worst years of my life. But, it's also a year that sparked a big change in me. Grief has a way of doing that. It's something I'm keen on exploring more — this altered state throughout grief. It's something that I'm developing an experiment/film around. Because it's something we've all been through, or will go through. And the world we live in is not set up for it. ❌ We don't like talking about it. ❌ We don't know how to talk about it. ❌ And typically (in the US) only 3-5 bereavement days are given. Currently, there are no federal laws that require employers to provide employees either paid or unpaid leave.
