If I ran a hotel chain, I'd not give out free/cheaper/upgrade rooms to influencers for exposure. I'd give them to incredibly frequent travellers in return for extensive feedback. Not that I'm acting in my own interests here :)

Governments are either forward looking or backwards. Brexit is about a nostalgic dream, Trump wants coal jobs and to build walls, and we've places like Dubai, China and Korea actively embracing what's next. Generally speaking issues that divided "Right" and "Left" wing increasingly don't map out in the same way in the future. The global nature of trade, the digitalization of stuff, the rise of AI, privacy issues,  the changing demographics of populations, all make social and fiscal policies of the past a blurry mess. I'd love to see a party abandon the notions of liberalism or conservatism and decide if they want to anticipate, prepare for and embrace change ( which involves tough but necessary debates) or try to deny change, put measures in place to safeguard what we have now and to try to retreat to safety. Not all meetings need Zoom. Not all communications need to be done on Zoom. It's okay to say no. It's okay to ask via email. It's okay to outline things via emails. It's okay to chat over messenger. Ask yourself this... Can this communication be done via email? Over Slack? I use Discord for my team. I even chat to potential leads via LinkedIn Messenger. During a 1:1 last week, someone asked me to list the top three traits that make a great manager and leader. While there are many things that make up a great leader, I found the exercise of ranking the top three thought-provoking - this is my list: 1) Practice humanity-first leadership. You can, and should, exceed at both delivery and empathy. They are never mutually exclusive, and equally important. 2) Earn trust through transparency. Don't lie to your employees. EVER. You will eventually be exposed. Be respectfully transparent to the highest extent possible. The trust broken when a leader is caught or exposed for having lied, especially in a public forum, is never ever regained. 3) Actively invest in people's careers. Know the difference between feedback and growth coaching, and how both are applied. Use feedback as teaching moments, not punitively, unless absolutely necessary. Coach your folks on how to grow and succeed, actively and passionately. Advocate for their success proactively, in terms of compensation and promotability. Terribly sad to hear the news that Johnny Clegg has passed away. A South African legend, a freedom fighter and someone that has taught us so much about love, passion and fighting for what’s right. His music was loved the world over but there was one song “Asimbonanga” that will always be the song I will remember him by. It’s the song he wrote for Nelson Mandela whilst he was on Robben Island in 1987. I've never been a fan of Danielle Steel as I moved beyond Mills & Boons phase decades ago. I am more the 'Gone with the Wind' type. Margaret Mitchell wrote only one book but it has a lot of depth and its impressions are carved in my mind, despite reading it decades ago. Coming back to Danielle Steel, I have no recollection of any of her titles or story line. But then I read this article about the volume of her work with Discipline, Passion & Work ethic & it struck a chord. It certainly deserves #respect . As an entrepreneur in her own right, she reinvented boundaries for what's possible. I questioned myself - How important is our notion to build one big thing v/s things with incremental value? In our world it is the aspiration to build one big unicorn v/s multiple businesses of incremental value. Would love to hear you thoughts. I'm really realizing how far we've come & how much of that we owe to the people that support us. - Helping us lock down our first office space over a year ago. - Picking us up at the airport when we travel. - Referring clients, employees, and other opportunities. - Grabbing coffee with us. - Sharing our content. - And so on. Saying that it means the world, wouldn't mean enough. I never want to forget what got us to where we are, and what will get us to where we are going. TEDx was on my bucket list. But honestly, I didn't enjoy the overall experience because I didn't allow myself to. The process was rigorous, stressful, and took far more planning than I expected. So I made excuses: - "I'm an entrepreneur, this isn't how I do things." - "I am so much better off my feet." - etc. It wasn't until the last few weeks that I was really able to get organized and get out of my own way. And I wasn't officially approved to give my talk until the morning of. And thankfully it went awesome! But it very easily could have gone poorly because of the stress. You cannot expect one digital health technology to solve a medical issue in itself. And you cannot avoid using such technologies in healthcare to provide sufficient care. This is why digital health is a cultural transformation where you can't just drop a technology into the system and expect everything to get better. Growing up in first generation and low income families ourselves, it was inspiring and fun to spend time with this group of motivated young professionals, students, and interns at Stanford University . Jessie was able to take professional headshots free of cost for those who didn’t have the financial means for such service. And I had the opportunity to host a tight knit roundtable to share my own story of how I got started in tech and answered flurries of questions on personal growth.
