Finding a place to rent in NYC should be easy. Why not have Floorplans and 10-20 images of each apartment online. Why not use some easy metadata to filter by. Why not show availability dates. Get pre-clearance on affordability and credit. And then have a way to make offers and arrange viewings. It should be deeply efficient and super simple and customer centric. Many people have tried to make this vision, but people get in the way. So when we talk about how technology will destroy jobs or how blockchain will change X, or how AI will change Y. We fail to understand how slow we are to embrace it and that progress depends on willingness from all sides. …see more

All of these women were part of a gaggle of teenagers at the Detroit Free Press back in 1992, and they made me feel like a Resident Advisor in one big newsroom dorm. They were so young and smart and savvy and cool, and they actually BELIEVED I knew what I was doing, which made me feel (relatively) young, and smart and savvy and cool, too. I shared what I knew, listened a lot, cooked for them, and tried to help guide them through their career decisions. Twenty-seven years later, Kelley Carter is a Senior Entertainment Reporter for ESPN 's "The Undefeated." She's been on every Red Carpet in America, including at the Oscars, and she's one of the best entertainment reporters in the country. Maisha Maurant is Manager, Communication & Creative Services and Chief Corporate Editor for Health Alliance Plan -Michigan. And the third woman is a Force of Nature, the modern day #SojournerTruth , the #journalist and #writer and #podcaster and Authentically Amazing Jemele Hill . So proud to say I knew them all when. There are about eight other shining stars from my Detroit Free Press era, and I hope we'll all get together to complete this picture soon. #journalism #communications #mentoring , #womeninjournalism #womeninmedia #Detroit #blackexcellence …see more

Catalonia has always been one of the frontrunner regions when it comes to the adoption of digital health technologies. Now researchers described how the region could adopt telemedicine so quickly when facing the pandemic. This figure shows how many remote consultations they started to have days after the lockdowns (in-person visits in red, remote visits in blue). https://lnkd.in/gA3rDbs Also, some related news: - 23andMe started recruiting up to 10,000 new participants who have been hospitalized with COVID-19 to conduct a genetic study on their data to find clues about COVID-19. This shows what amazing benefits large patient data pools could have if we don't look at the obvious privacy issues. https://bit.ly/2y5K8Y0 - And one more thing, A.I. tools in radiology are swarming the market and there are a lot of studies about analyzing them for COVID-19-related diagnoses. Here is a new one that was made available pro bono on the manufacturer’s website. https://lnkd.in/gUzWVFP #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #AI #artificialintelligence #deeplearning #machinelearning #COVID19 #COVID_19 #coronavirus …see more

Average returns for hedge funds in the first half of 2020 as measured by Bloomberg's Hedge Fund Indices. Overall, the 3.5% loss is in line with the S&P's decline, but worse than a passive 60/40 portfolio ... and a lot worse than the NASDAQ's 12.7%. INTERVIEW WITH TIM KENNEDY (Warrior Ambassador, MMA fighter and Super Peak Performer): Imagine this room is filling up with poisonous gas,” Tim said. “There’s two doors behind me, one window and one to either side.” “We have several choices,” he said, “I can pick the locks of one of the doors. I can break down the doors. I can smash one of the windows and we can climb out. We have three minutes until we die. What do we do?” Tim is aware of everything around him. Which is probably why I started off the podcast with: “We have nothing in common.” It’s a creative challenge to figure out how to relate with each person I meet. He’s a US Army Special Forces sniper. He’s been to Iraq and Afghanistan. He’s an MMA fighter. And has multiple black belts. I have zero black belts. I have negative black belts. I haven’t been to war. And I’m not trained to kill people. I can’t shove someone without looking funny. So we have different instincts. He told me about the decisions he had to make every day. I can’t imagine. And not being able to imagine, is what we have in common. It’s when you try to find the bridge where two people can meet that I learn the most about the people around me. Here’s what we ended up talking about: http://bit.ly/2tW22sq …see more
