Thank you Jonathan Ferro for the opportunity to participate in your BloombergTV show. I enjoyed the conversation on the economy, policy, and markets. (You should know Jonathan that the "thank you" is not universal at this end. Specifically, the pup is less than impressed by being "noise managed.") #economy #markets #dogs #bloomberg …see more

I've noted a lot of debates over the past few years about how LinkedIn is becoming too much like Facebook , and how it should be a strictly professional platform that avoids personal, political or religious content. In one sense, I agree. I've been using this site primarily for my professional pursuits as a "global health brand strategist." I regularly share health and development information that drives home the point that we are all in this global maelstrom together. But today, I'm posting my conscience. I left a major mainstream newsroom 11 years ago because I got tired of the "objectivity" trope in journalism, which required reporters to keep their beliefs and opinions tightly confined. I moved to East Africa because I wanted to do work that mattered by empowering young African journalists to do a better job of communicating key issues in their communities. Nine years ago, I was living 7,500 miles away from America, and I saw hundreds of children enduring life in Kenyan refugee camps. Now, I would only need to travel to Texas to see something similar. But the difference is that the kids in Kenya weren't separated from their parents. #GodSaveAmerica  and  #immigrantchildren Share this post if you agree. …see more

Who knew that the US is the world's number 3 oil producer, just below Saudi Arabia? Or that China is no. 5? Great chart from The Economist.

Would you borrow to get a degree (for yourself or for your kids) from a reputable university like Harvard or Stanford? Loans for buying a house, education and starting businesses are considered ‘good’ because they create assets that increase future income. But how does one calculate the (net present) value of the degree that combines education and signalling? As I caught up with cousins, we debated this in light of our careers turned out with and without brand name degrees, and discussed what our kids should do. What do you think? Would you take an education loan? Or has the internet (and availability of free courses) democratised education enough so we should focus on signaling/testing talent? #personalfinance #educationloan #finance …see more

I've said this before, but it merits repeating: If folks are leaving your team/org/company, the first thing you should do is be introspective about *why* people are leaving in the first place. Find the reasons that are driving them away, and then ruthlessly eliminate them. Blaming others for recruiting your folks away is a complete waste of time. It shifts time and energy from the real problem - what is driving them away. As my mentor told me many years ago: "You should always expect your best people to leave. But it's your job to make their decision to leave as difficult as possible." …see more

Want a technique to help manage distraction? It's called the 10-minute rule. If I find myself about to give in to some kind of distraction, I allow myself to indulge...but only after 10 minutes have passed. This approach is not about abstinence. It's about “surfing the urge” and building a habit of dealing with desire in a healthier way. Remember: Time management is pain management. We must learn to manage discomfort to become Indistractable. When you feel an urge to give in to a distraction, you have two choices: You can either sit with that sensation and explore it with curiosity (rather than contempt) or get back to the task you had planned to do. By implementing this technique, you’re riding an emotional wave like a surfer and by the end of those 10 minutes, you’d be amazed at how 99% of the time, that urge you initially felt is gone. How do you manage the desire for distraction? #Indistractable #Behavior #Psychology …see more

Last week, Indistractable was sent to 1.5M inboxes. This was made possible thanks to Morning Brew , the daily email newsletter covering the latest news from Wall Street to Silicon Valley. Alex Lieberman , Tyler Denk , and Austin Rief designed their product based on the Hooked model. What I love most about their work are the variable rewards they give their users, like a free MacBook giveaway. I can’t thank them enough for their support of my work. Also, if you haven’t yet, you should check out my recent conversation with Alex Hickey and subscribe to their newsletter (Link in comments!). #Indistractable #MorningBrew …see more

בוודאות❤️ AdviceMe.Il …see more See translation

I asked Dr. Ádám Schmidt to test StethoMe® , the A.I.-enabled digital stethoscope in his pediatrician practice, and here are his observations: "StethoMe is probably a dream device for parents and for doctors to follow up on pulmonary and cardiac diseases. The device is portable, mostly for home use, is sleek and has no buttons to confuse the user. The StethoMe app gives the user comprehensive advice on what and how to do during the examination. The auscultation is recorded with the device and sent via Bluetooth to the phone app, which uploads it to the cloud and is analyzed by the StethoMe AI algorithm. It can be time-consuming and difficult to complete a good enough examination, especially when a child is crying. The StethoMe AI algorithm can’t filter the surrounding noise, and the device itself is quite loud too - because of that, home use can be tricky. Overall, I like the device and find it useful. It can be used at home to decide on the status of your patient. I find it very useful that you can record and play back previous recordings, creating a timeline of data to monitor the evolution of the disease. As an addition, with this function it is easier to teach medical students and educate patients. Looking forward to the progression of the device." #DigitalHealth …see more

This CNBC screen captures the large and widening disconnect between markets and fundamentals. Investors and traders are comfortable shrugging off the spike in #covid19 cases that's forcing more states to stop/reverse their re-opening process, undermining the rebound in corporate earnings and in the economy more generally. #economy #cnbc #markets …see more

Occasionally I see smart ideas that use Blockchain to solve a problem. But then they insist on creating their own CryptoCurrency to tokenize it. Then they want to use an ICO to raise funds.  Genuine question, why do 99% of Blockchain solutions then use Cryptocurrencies, where does the need to peg solutions to specific arbitrary new currencies? Let's say you want to employ the latest technology to empower CRM for Walmart, you'd not then say 'and let's not accept the Dollar, let's create Walmart Coins". Please let me know so I can learn. …see more

I thought I would be prepared to handle the blow of Ms. Cicely Tyson’s passing. After all, 96 years is a good long run of elegance, talent, grace, beauty and passion. I guess all I really wanted was a chance to personally thank her for making me feel like I could be beautiful, smart and adventurous even as a poor Black girl from Cairo, Illinois. When I first saw the movie “Sounder,” I saw myself in the character Rebecca Morgan. And though the poverty and struggle was there, I also saw the dignity and strength and determination. So thank you, #CicelyTyson , for helping me see the hero within myself as a young girl. Along with my foremothers, you laid the foundation for the woman I am today. #RIPCicelyTyson #Hollywood #BlackActors #AfricanAmericans #AfricanAmericanHistory #legends #legendsneverdie #BlackActresses #Acting …see more
