Came back to Cal Day as an alum for the first time. Always love the excitement & energy from admitted students & their parents! My advice for high school seniors still deciding on their college? Pick the school that's going to push you out of your comfort zone. Major and ranking will play a secondary role when you're in the right environment that enables growth not just in professional skills, but also how you view the world. College is an opportunity meet people who are radically different from you, challenge your pre-existing world views, & form new ones. I picked Cal after attending Cal Day several years back because of how different Berkeley was compared to Orange County: people, ideas, and so much more. Despite the early challenges of transitioning, I've made and learned a ton from such a diverse group of friends, classmates, and mentors! These diverse perspectives, compounded over the years, have made a better thinker and leader. Go Bears! Also had a great time seeing Jessie Salas inspiring the next gen of data scientists! Ended the day with a thoughtful convo on personal branding with Manisha Sharma Aparna Dhinakaran Joshua Perline Genaro Hernandez Salgado . What's your advice for high school seniors still deciding on what college to pick? For the United Nations #InternationalDayoftheMidwife , I will never forget the day that Chanel Porchia-Albert of ANCIENT SONG DOULA SERVICES in Brooklyn met internationally renowned #nurse and #midwife Edna Adan Ismail of #Hargeisa , #Somaliland . Weāre experiencing the dawn of the "hospital at home" concept. Healthcare is inevitably shifting from the point of care to your home, and hereās the latest example of this phenomenon: The Israeli company Biobeat 's take-home kit includes a continuous vitals monitor (tracking 14 vital signs, such as blood pressure, heart rate variability, skin temperature and a one-lead ECG), a patient app and a cloud-based patient management system. Iām explaining the āhospital at homeā concept in further details in my e-books on digital health and the future of healthcare. Google gets into the medical research game, and itās mixed news. Google is launching a new research app for Android phones, which would allow anyone with a device to participate in medical studies. Participants in the study will use the app to report any respiratory symptoms, the precautions theyāre taking to prevent disease, and whether theyāve been tested for COVID-19 or the flu. The app will collect demographic data, like age, gender, and race as well It opens up two worlds: one into a better world of clinical trials and studies with more and more relevant patient data; and one into a dystopia where privacy is significantly flawed. I can't yet decide which one this will lead to but I'd opt in to participate in studies as I see more benefits from those, compared to how much of my privacy Iād lose. Too bad it wonāt let me download or tell me why. Good morning. Two US officials indicated in the last 24 hours that the country's unemployment rate will likely rise above 20% (and, according to Secretary Mnuchin, could reach 25%). My estimates suggest the same and point to following additional questions: - How transitory is the surge in joblessness? - Do current compositional trends worsen that hit particularly hard minorities and the young? - How big is the hit to wages and hours worked for those employed? #economy #markets #jobs #unemployment #unemployment #wages ā¦see more
This article isnāt wrong āWe may be used to it now, but step outside our new normal for a moment. If someone, without telling you why, had informed you last October that within a year, Europe's offices and city centres would stand deserted, its citizens subject to night-time curfews, alcohol bans, travel restrictions and the mandated wearing of face shields; that spending the night with one's non-live-in partner would be punishable by a fine and visiting one's family abroad would be banned - you might assume, horrified, that Kim Jong-Un, armed with more nukes than we previously knew existed, had rolled in and taken over the Western world If that same person told you that, no, this wouldnāt be the result of nuclear war, but a virus which in that year accounted for little more than two per cent of the total global death toll; one that presented some danger to the elderly and infirm but spared most of the population even from mild symptoms ... well. Immortal mistakes and never too late to correct them. We all make professional mistakes, not taking on a client, not hiring that person, not focusing on emerging #markets and so on. Worse is we donāt use the opportunities to rectify them when we can.
