Should I or shouldn't I? Amazon's Jeff Bezos shares this piece of incredible advice on how to make the tough life decisions.  "And for me, the best way to think about it was to project myself forward to age 80 and say, “Look, when I’m 80 years old, I want to have minimized the number of regrets that I have... our biggest regrets, in most cases, you can murder somebody and okay, you’ll regret that, but in most cases our biggest regrets turn out to be acts of omission. It’s paths not taken and they haunt us. We wonder what would have happened. I loved that person and I never told them, and then they married somebody else. I didn’t do this, and so that’s the frame of mind that I put myself in and once I did that, and thought about it that way, it was immediately obvious to me. I knew that when I’m 80, I would never regret trying this thing that I was super excited about and it failing. If it failed, fine. I would be very proud of the fact when I’m 80 that I tried. And I also knew that it would always haunt me if I didn’t try. And so that would be a regret, it would be 100% chance of regret if I didn’t try and basically a 0% chance of regret if I tried and failed. So I think that’s a useful metric for any important life decision." …see more

Don't do something just for the money. Money is a side effect of persistence. You persist in things you are interested in. Explore your interests. Then persist. Then enjoy all the side effects.

The best founders attribute #success to their teams. Every good leader inspires the #team to achieve more than they thought would be possible. Team building is dynamic and requires adjustments. #Learning on the job DNA, training internal talent, grooming leaders is the CEO's responsibility. Founders need to 1. Identify the right people 2. Empower 3. Learn & 4. Inspire Inspire The 9-box is an effective tool for founders to assess, manage, and develop organizations' talent. It gives a structured framework to assess individuals on Past Performance vs. Future Potential. Are there any other tools/frameworks used for talent assessment? #startups #leadership …see more

‘Oops, I hired a wrong person!’ We all have that moment sometime or the other in our career. As a VC, it may also extend to investing in the wrong company. I feel responsible when I make a wrong hiring decision – for the employee as well as for the organization. I have come to realize that direct acknowledgment is the first step towards taking corrective actions. The next is salvaging the situation. Is the person - Competent? Motivated? And a good culture fit? What is the gap? I am usually willing to have a direct and honest discussion about my concerns. Sometimes they receive it poorly. Other times they may shed light on why they are struggling, that might point to a mutual solution. Generally, if they are not a culture fit, it is hard to fix. I typically want to resolve that quickly. If they are not motivated, it is important to understand what is holding back that might be helpful. In the case of incompetence, can they do a different role or learn on the job? If a person is highly motivated, I am willing to give more opportunities to see if I can help them succeed. …see more

Try considering A.I. not as a threat, but an essential tool for the medical profession. Try considering A.I. as the stethoscope of the 21st century. (Fun fact: When stethoscope was invented, no doctor took it seriously, considering it a mockery on "the art of medicine". Now it symbolizes healthcare.) Woke up to the very sad news of the passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. A brilliant jurist, a champion of equality, a warrior against injustice and an inspiration for so many, she leaves behind her a much-admired path of transformation that she, herself, stressed has more to go and must be pursued further. May she rest in peace. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends. #ruthbaderginsuburg #supremecourt #rip …see more

I don’t think people think enough about KPI’s in the digital age. Do you really think success should be measured by click through rates ? Or impressions? Or likes? Or views? Or comments ? Or social sentiment ? KPI’s are vital and they shape the work we do. They need to be aligned to the business strategy not just what’s easiest to measure. Time to give them some proper consideration. When we chase “likes” all brands become baby picture publishers and it accomplishes nothing. …see more

Real talk: I messed up. I have NOT been showing an accurate depiction of what it's like building my business/personal brand/or community. I'm creating this series to act as a business journal. I’ll be touching on topics ranging from personal branding, community building, and the occasional business tactics/strategy. Diving deep into the decisions that I'm making and why I'm making them. I want to keep it real. To not only show the success, but also show my failures and shortcomings. And hopefully, from that I can help a few of you as well. I'm looking forward to taking this journey with all of you. Smash the subscribe button to keep up with this experiment. #justQ 🖖🏽🖤 …see more
