There are iconic pictures that capture our imagination, and this has become one. Shot last week, this is a Mumbai commuter praying before boarding the local train.😊 Is he grateful to be back to work putting the pandemic behind him? Did he miss his daily commute and conversations and train friendships? Is he hoping the trains run smoothly and no lockdowns? There are so many questions our imagination can throw up. I want an app called "Drink now". You press a button and it sends out a message to all your good mates within 2 miles and tells them you want to meet near there for a spontaneous drink. "Meal now" would be the West Coast option and extend out further.

Would someone to make an app called “spontaneous”. A way for people who HATE planning to navigate places that offer last minute stays, last second theatre tickets, spare seats on flights, in restaurants, spa bookings, haircuts, any service. You could use location based services to ping people based on spaces that open up, quiet times, unsold inventory etc. I don't get why so much of the world revolves around planning, when our phones should render everything much faster, more seamless and spontaneous. …see more

If someone offered you $200K, would you use that as seed capital for your startup or use that to pay for an MBA at Harvard? I believe that there is no right or wrong answer to this and it totally depends on a person's current situation and long-term goals. There pros and cons to both options. 1. Starting a company is like jumping off a cliff and assembling a plane on the way down, according to Reid Hoffman. I agree with his analogy. Starting up is hard and too many wrong moves in a row can lead to a crash landing. But many well-executed moves and your startup can soar and succeed. Some people are ok with ambiguity and can thrive in these high risk, high reward environments. 2. Getting an MBA can be compared to spending time sharpening an axe before going to cut a tree. An MBA can help you get a theoretical understanding of business concepts and how to approach situations. But the proof of the pudding is still in execution. What would you recommend? #HigherEducation (MBA) vs #startups ? …see more

[How do I get rid of #NegativeThinking?] ---- This is going to be simple, but it works. And if I don’t do this every day: I sink. I despair. I suffocate on my own negativity. Our brains like to be negative. It actually relieves stress. If something bad happens to you, your stress hormones spike. One way to reduce the stress in the body, believe it or not, is to think negative. This is me: “I lost a lot of money in a business. But it was my partner’s fault!” or…”I’m not able to have good relationships!” Etc. Negativity is an excuse. And so it relieves the stress and, surprisingly, makes you feel better. But positive is better. Positive is a muscle, a habit, something to exercise and practice. I’m negative a lot. I wake up negative. Why me? Why them? Why did this happen? Why why why. So I have to stop myself. I have to say, “5x5 rule” and then I have to act on it. I remind myself of this at least three times a day. …see more

Dear LinkedIn community, can you help me with something? In response to a recent article I wrote on the emotional intelligence of Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian, a reader reached out to share her heart-breaking experience: Beverly Dodd said she worked as a Delta Flight Attendant for fifteen years. Beverly loved her job, but retired early to be home full time with her children. Sadly, Beverly's son passed away last year. After taking some time to mourn, she was ready to re-enter the workforce. But Beverly never made it past the interview stage with the 3rd party recruiting agency Delta was using. Beverly's experience is not the first time I've heard of a potentially ideal candidate, specifically one who has valuable training--and invaluable experience--getting weeded out by recruitment management systems, many of which are automated. So, the ask: Can you pls like or comment on this post? Hopefully together we can get Delta's attention. And just maybe give Beverly a chance at getting her job back. #Delta #leadership #management #recruitment #careers #EmotionalIntelligence …see more

The new school year has just begun. A mix of incoming freshmen and current students have recently reached out to me asking for general and career advice I wish I knew when I was still in school. I'll start with two that defined my time at UC Berkeley. What advice would you give to your younger self (including current students!) while still in school? Comment below. 1. Set and embrace your own timeline. It's easy to constantly compare yourself to peers and classmates. Whether it's what classes they are taking, how many years it will take you to graduate, or where you will work in the summer. While there's nothing wrong with some friendly competition, you will ultimately limit your own success with other people's potential, not yours. 2. Learn to get back up and incorporate feedback. You will fail so many times (I repeat many times). Whether it's a bad grade or rejection to your dream job. Take the needed time to sulk, learn from your mistakes and how to improve, and move on. The worst is to bury failures and not confront them at all. …see more

"How can I reduce stress? And what is real stress? I hear so much about stress reducing health, but really don’t understand it." My Answer: I feel really bad for you. I hate stress. Stress has killed me. Made me sick. Made me angry. Made me want to kill myself at times. Made me want to kill others at other times. Stress is often caused by a specific problem that can’t be immediately solved. If it could be immediately solved then you would feel happy and not stressed. What are those problems? Financial? Maybe you’ve lost your job and you look at your bank account and say, “I have six months left to live.” I have felt that stress often. Love? I like a girl but she may or may not like me or maybe she likes someone else. I have felt that stress as well. Both these stresses have come close to ending me up in jail or the hospital. The worst thing in wearing a cast? No doubt it's itching. And heaviness. And not being able to take a shower for weeks. As having broken several limbs, I know the pain. So trying out the Exovite 3D plaster cast was a real catharsis. Not only is it light, you don't itch and can have a shower with it, but it also has muscle stimulator, so patients can start rehabilitation while still having the cast. When people ask what I do, I sometimes jokingly say I am on a mid-life crisis break. A younger friend asked me recently if I am not worried about how I would explain the gap in my CV. I was surprised. Do people still get asked about gaps in the CVs? Isn’t the #futureofwork a gig-based way of life? Given that I now work in #financialeducation, I encourage people to ‘retire early’ which basically means financial security is taken care of, and I work because I want to, not because I have to. I won’t respond, attack, hold it against you, etc. I would just like to listen. Feel free to message me privately as well. I will read. #justQ 🖖🏽🖤 #blacklivesmatter …see more

Ended my first week off with a relaxing stroll along the Berkeley Marina. Such an inspiring walk for ideation and mindfulness. What is your go-to for relaxation or destress?

Gathering a casual list of the best speakers in Marketing who are not "superstars" -e.g Seth Godin. Quality of their material/delivery more important than seniority, experience or who they work for. Please comment below.

I've honestly no idea what to do about connection requests these days. If Linkedin wants you to only accept people you know well, it should act like it means it.

I got an email the other day. Someone asked me, “when you are totally out of luck and feeling incredibly down, how do you spark that creativity up so you can get going again?” http://bit.ly/2wqB6OO

Who is the most interesting/dynamic speaker you've seen? Putting on an not for profit event in NYC in 2 weeks for quirky unconventional discussions related to the future and the world (not advertising). If you know of great people please DM me. You can post below too, but I'm not doing this for engagement.

Nothing more fulfilling than a destressing activity on a Sunday like puzzles and legos. What’s your weekend’s self care activity to rejuvenate you for the start of a new week?

Each company must now have in place, various #risk scenarios based on the potential impact of #COVID -19. There is a business impact of sourcing from China. There is a pandemic impact in terms of workforce. There is a global #economic impact. Not to mention, personal #impact each of us has to plan for, loss of value in the equity market, taking care of a sick family member, workplace impact on financial #planning . Can we share here how you in a personal capacity and #businesses as organizations are planning for this subject? By learning from each other, maybe we might minimize the impact. …see more

When was chocolate invented? Roald Dahl is a famous children’s author. He shows his humour here, and probably this trait is what made him such a great author. My kids loved reading his book Matilda, their favourite. Do you have any favourite book by Roald Dahl? #Creativity #Fun #WeekendMusings Video Credits: BBC Archive …see more
