Kevin O'Leary“How do I know when it’s the ‘right’ time to invest?” The answer is NOW. Regardless of what the market is doing, take a small portion of your income - 5, maybe 10%, and invest it in diverse, dividend paying stocks. Consider that your nest egg. Regardless of what the market is doing right NOW, be patient, and your money will grow without you worrying about a thing. Vani Kola5 mistakes while #Fundraising : 1. Playing the bluff: "I already have a term sheet. I need an answer immediately". Too often the deadline is artificial & unrealistic, compromising the founder's credibility. It leaves no room for an authentic engagement for a meaningful outcome. 2. Overvaluation: "I am interested only if the valuation is $100M". If you draw a hard line that is a big gap from the investor's assessment of the valuation, most often they will disengage. Also, negotiating down significantly hurts your credibility. 3. Pitch: CEOs should own & lead the conversation with the investors. Sometimes, the banker takes over while presenting, hurting the CEO's credibility. Investors like CEOs to have ownership of the numbers that they are committing. 4. Communication: Another mistake is not communicating the business proposition early in the presentation. Pace the presentation for 35 mins & communicate the uniqueness of the product that makes you win the market up front. 5. Feedback: Often, founders don't listen to feedback & get defensive to questions asked. In fact, questions are asked with an intent to understand the business better. …see more

Vani KolaBuilding a #startup is tough. Picking a right co-founder isn't easy either. 7 tips that might work: 1. Find a co-founder within your inner network. The best co-founder relationship is based on deep trust, and that's based on the history of the relationship 2. Before choosing a #business partner, have frank, direct, and difficult conversations with them. Discuss who will own how much, each other's roles and responsibilities, and who gets to have the final say on what, among others 3. You and your potential business partner should have a common vision, work ethics, and goals setting 4. Discuss each other's strengths and shortcomings 5. Pick someone from a different background and with different strengths to complement you 6. Disagreements and differences are inevitable, but you must respect and support each other. Your startup's #success will immensely depend on your ability to make necessary compromises that are in the better interests of the business 7. James AltucherHOW TO DEAL WITH CRAPPY PEOPLE ----- DON'T KEEP A SCOREBOARD One friend of mine asked me, "Do you ever keep a scoreboard in your friendships?" What do you mean? "Like, I did this so he/she should now do this. Or...I did X, Y and Z so they shouldn't do A, B, or C!" Yeah, I do that all the time. "Once you find yourself keeping a scoreboard, that's a sign that the friendship or business relationship or any relationship is already over." ---- AND NEVER ASK "WHY?" Most important thing I learned last year about people: never ask "why?" Some people are toxic. Some are "narcissistic" (an over-used word, but still). Some people will wrong you. Some friends will stop talking to you for no reason. I have never ever once found out why. In a hundred different situations over the past many decades. They just do what they do. ---- The crappy people in my life are never the neighbors down the street who I don't know. They are always people who were once close to me. They are always people who I would once trust with anything, with my life, with my loyalty and faith. And then...poof. I'll never know. And I am going to try really hard this year to never ask Again. …see more

James AltucherThere is only one trick to getting up early: GOING TO SLEEP EARLY! We all feel like we can’t go to sleep early. We might miss something. Often night is the time we can read. Or socialize. Or eat. Or drink. Or watch TV. Well, stop all of those things. ➞ Don’t eat a meal after 5 or 6pm ➞ Don’t watch TV (what’s good on TV anyway?) ➞ Don’t socialize too much (do your friends need to see you every night?). ➞ Don’t drink – its both a depressant and filled with sugar and calories, which will keep you up at night. ➞ Networking at night is ok, but you can’t do it every day. Maybe once a week. The benefits of waking up early are enormous. You are able to focus better. Your day will be filled with success by the time everone is just waking up. You can read more. You can exercise. You can think. You can work and nobody is up to bother you. You can meditate or pray. There’s no temptation to drink or eat a heavy meal. You can see the emptiness of where you live when the sun just peeks out and lights it up. You can feel the freshness of the air. Daniel Cohen-I'm FlyeringIf you're interviewing for a job or just looking for a job - know whom you’re talking to. It matters. Big time. Different positions, different responsibilities, different impact: Talent sourcer - creates a recruitment pipeline, from job posting to personal headhunting. Similar to scouting in sports. Talent Ops - enables the talent organization to work more effectively. In charge of scheduling and the interview process. Talent Acquisition Specialist - manages the entire hiring process, from screening to contract. Talent Marketing Specialist- develops the company's Employer Branding and Recruitment Marketing strategies. In charge of evolving recruitment, so the company can attract top talent. HRBP - Responsible for you from the moment your onboarding process ends. HR analytics - collects and analyzes HR data, and applies it to make recommendations related to recruitment, retention, and legal compliance. In smaller companies, one person can cover a few of these positions. But these are DIFFERENT positions. HR is NOT recruitment. Daniel Cohen-I'm FlyeringGetting a new job today - that’s a whole job in itself. It ain’t what it used to be. But I still see candidates use the same old methods. The most popular one is “spray and pray” - sending your CVs to any position, regardless of how relevant it is for you. It can’t hurt, right? Wrong❌ Applying for every single job out there shows Recruiters that you lack focus, passion, and talent. Not very good qualities. Worse than that - sometimes you’ll get in the system, in which case you’ll be marked as someone who was rejected multiple times. So what should you do? 📌Research the company you want to work for. 📌Research the people who work there. 📌Find a RELEVANT job description, one that 📌you have a real shot at. 📌Research that position and try to talk to people in that company who know what it means 📌Adapt your CV to better reflect that position Then - apply✅ *This isn’t 2005 anymore* Invest time and effort, and the chances of finding your dream job will dramatically increase. #hr #people #linkedin …see more

Amy BlaschkaUnless you want to burn out, you need to learn an essential #leadership lesson: protect your #time . Here's how: Establish #boundaries Maintaining a healthy balance by making it clear that you'll respond to work messages during business hours and within a day. Learn to say no Become more discerning with your time. Saying no to the people and things that don't support your goals will give you more time to say yes to those that do. Empower your team Trust the smart folks you've hired to do their jobs without you and keep you in the loop, freeing you up to focus on what matters most. Resist the urge to multi-task Multi-tasking destroys #clarity , which is essential for #productivity . When you're working, be singularly focused on it; when you're not, be fully present in your non-work activity. Eliminate distractions Turn off notifications, click out of tabs, put your phone on airplane mode, close your door or use noise-canceling headphones. Do whatever it takes to help you focus on the matter at hand. Work with your body's natural rhythms Block out your peak for your most important work and save mundane tasks for later. Carve out non-negotiable time for what matters most Replenish yourself with whatever (or whomever) fills your tank, and make that time non-negotiable. …see more

It was me answering questions with a guest host and we ran about 300+ episodes. Quentin Michael AllumsI recorded 500+ videos before anyone really watched, this is what I've learned when it comes to sharing your story. 👇🏽 And real talk, there isn't a special formula. At the end of the day, anything can work but you have to find what works best for you. I would say regardless of who you are start with 👇🏽 1). Finding clarity. Take time to get to know yourself and hone your voice. Brittany Krystle preaches this. If you don't know YOU and why people should follow you, then more than likely they won't. 2). SAM LISTER talks about how if you're unsure of the direction and what stories to share, then a good place to start is by documenting. This is the route that I took initially as well and it helped me achieve step number 1. 3). What's your overarching story? Why are you doing this? Where are you going? A good single story will get people to watch, but a good overarching story will keep people coming back for more. Those are a few things that I've learned. Daniel Cohen-I'm FlyeringDo's and Don'ts in your job search I see a lot [!!!] of mistakes in the past few months and in this kind of arena you should be in your best shape! These mistakes cost a lot. #Don 't- Upload a LinkedIn post that says you've been looking for a job in the past 6 months and that everyone rejects you/ treats you unfairly in the hiring process. #Why ? You are your own brand! If you are a brand you should emphasize your professional skills by sharing interesting content and showing interesting projects. You can get empathy from friends but LinkedIn isn't the place for that. #What should you do instead? Ask a friend to upload a post about you as a reference or focus on side projects and show them on LinkedIn. #Don 't- Use the "Open to work" LinkedIn frame #Why - Although it seems like a cool feature, I know recruiters who say they decline to connect requests from people with the frame in order to prevent inconvenience because they do not have jobs to offer. #What should you do instead? Open the "let recruiters know you are open to new opportunity button", it's discreet and won't show up to recruiters at your company. And yes, marketing-wise it looks much better. All of this info is based on my thoughts research and experience. Feel free to share your opinion. Good luck! #Jobs #HR …see more

Amy BlaschkaYou’ll never regret investing in yourself; here are five easy ways to do it: 1. Get clarity and alignment on your goals When you’re clear on what you want, you can choose how to spend your time and where and with whom to invest your attention to move closer to your goals. 2. Dedicate time to reading Reading is one of the quickest ways to acquire and assimilate new information and grants you access to insights outside your area of expertise, which can fuel creativity and innovation. 3. Learn to say no Since time is a limited and non-renewable resource, invest yours wisely by prioritizing and focusing your attention on what matters most, and setting boundaries to protect it. 4. Say yes to growth opportunities Saying yes isn’t always bad. It invites collaboration and empowers and affirms others, and more importantly, can help you grow by pursuing opportunities outside your comfort zone. 5. Prioritize your wellbeing You can’t pour from an empty cup. Focus nourishing your body, mind, and spirit with proper nutrition and movement, rest, reflection, time in nature, and by visiting with friends and loved ones. Quentin Michael AllumsI have an important rule, that stemmed from my time as a singer-songwriter. 👇🏽 After every speaking gig, I walk around the room to thank everyone for coming. Every time. Even if it's not my event. The conversations that I have are awesome... and often more real than those you'll find when people only come up to you. Chantel SoumisDon't be ignorant with these THREE supportive things to say to high-risk community members and differently-abled team members. With chronic illness and disability, obstacles are inevitable, but tossing a global panedemic into the mix of already challenged, high-risk community members continues to build a divide. So instead of saying... "I understand, my [mother / grandmother / second cousin's dog] had [insert disease]" Say... "You must have a lot on your plate, would you like to tell me more?" Or... "Wow, I cannot imagine. How can I best support you?" By... 1) Displaying empathy 2) Verbalizing support And 3) Asking questions You can build a safe and inclusive environment for your friends, family, and employees to feel valued and heard. We are more than meets the eye. ALL of us! And we ALL have a part to play in building a prosperous world built on compassion and ambition. Carson TateWhile you’re working, frequent short breaks are more effective than occasional ones. During a typical workday, try to take 3 or 4 breaks of 5 to 10 minutes each. These pauses in the midst of your busyness will help maintain your focus and reactivate your commitment to a goal. When you spend hours working on one thing, you might feel weighed down and forget what you’re working toward. The breaks will help you to remember the end goal and more effectively work toward reaching it without feeling as much mental or physical strain. …see more

Amy BlaschkaOne of my biggest pet peeves in communication—especially business communication—is unnecessary complexity.🤦🏼♀️ I suggest maximizing the power of your words by simplifying them.💁🏼♀️ Communication doesn’t have to be hard; here are four ways to keep it simple: 1️⃣ Aim for clarity over clever🎯 Yes, it’s tempting to be witty in your latest marketing campaign, but if it leaves your audience scratching their heads, you’re in trouble. To avoid confusing people, always aim for clarity. 2️⃣ Avoid unnecessary jargon❌ Swap acronyms and buzzwords for plain language to increase your odds of your message being received—and understood. 3️⃣ Make brevity your friend✂️ When you want to deliver a message, think concise and compelling. Be intentional about your communication, eliminate extraneous material, and get to the point. 4️⃣ Focus on one takeaway🔍 A good rule of thumb is that each piece of content should revolve around one central theme. This forces you to get specific about and home in on your message. And that focus promotes better understanding, making it easier for your audience to understand your perspective. Business and life are complicated enough; keep your communication simple.✅ #communication #content #simplicity …see more

Quentin Michael AllumsThis is why copy is so important! 👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾 Two years ago I had a business that strictly specialized in personal branding. I found this old prompt that I edited for one of my team members. The copy below is his. The copy/audio in the video is my edit from two years ago. (I liked the concept so much we turned it into a video 🙃). Copy plays a huge factor in whether people will click to watch the video or not. ____ Original copy: How do you disrupt an industry? Challenge the human condition.. We are thought to accept what’s presented to us as truth. Anyone that defies that scenario in turn becomes an outcast, a “Misfit.” Take a normal everyday occurrence like walking into an elevator. Instead of facing forward, turn around and face the wall. As people enter, they immediately stop in their tracks. They look puzzled, confused possibly terrified. You’ve challenged their comfort of what they’ve known and accepted to be true by facing a different way. They will tell their work colleagues, post about it on their social media channels and open up a dialog that influences our perception of riding an elevator. A minor adjustment that costs nothing. You’ve just disrupted a 14.25 billion dollar industry. (watch video for the edited copy) #justQ 🖖🏾🖤 #business #startups …see more

Vani KolaTips for staying #relevant ? But before that, what does staying relevant mean? And what does relevance do for me? For example, we know that companies that don't stay relevant to new #technologies , new business models, new competitors get ruthlessly sidelined in the market. Litter of examples highlights this immutable aspect of modern commerce. It applies to individuals the same as it applies to companies. Staying relevant is to anticipate and prepare. Companies can stay relevant by actively encouraging the process of 'What if' scenarios and investing a small amount of consistent priority and preparing for these what if's even if they might seem outlandish. What if someone gave away phones and data, free to Indian consumers for a year, for example, Jio was born while nobody was paying attention. Personally, make staying relevant an active choice - Be hungry for learning, #learn something new - Pursue #excellence , be known to be very good at what you do - Be #imaginative of what you can be doing in 5 years from now. - Unleash #creativity - Take #risks . I uploaded 2 different posts, both of them "Self Branding" posts that tell the same story- me during corona. Both posts were uploaded at the same hour, same picture and subject (You can check the numbers) and yet one of them gained much more exposure (post A). My explanation is: • Post A is much more personal, I shared my personal goals, feelings and this is what people are looking to read. Tip- don't be afraid to share your feelings and thoughts, you will get much more exposure. • Post A tells a story, compared to post B which is super short and generic. Tip- tell a story and be a storyteller of your career, try to start with a problem and finish with how you solved it. • Post A ends with calling to action, a question. Tip- when you finish with a call to action people will get involved and comment-Boom- more exposure. What do you think? Do you want me to share more of my secrets?:) #linkedin #tips …see more

Daniel Cohen-I'm FlyeringWant a better chance at that job you want to get hired for? ‘Translate’ your CV to the language the company is using. Focus on 2 elements in your CV: Title - make sure your title fits the job description. If the job description lists ‘software engineer’, don’t use ‘Backend engineer’ in your CV. If there’s a way to get a perfect match, use it. Keywords - read the full job description. Find what matters in that job. And put as many keywords as possible in your CV. Pro tip - So many companies are using bots to screen CV. So use the EXACT same words. Use spaces before and after. Don’t let the bots rule you out. Whatever you do, DO NOT LIE. Especially in the skill section, you will be easily spotted during the interview phase. Once you get caught lying, there’s no turning back. Generally speaking, those people with the most influence / money / authority to help, have some of the greatest demands on their time & attention. So when asking for help, try to do three things. 1) Make it as easy as possible to help them. Don't reduce the scope of help needed, but reduce the mental effort required form the other person. 2) Be specific and honest about the help you need. These are the big two. The 3rd is a bonus. 3) Showing you've been thoughtful and empathetic is wonderful. Nir EyalHere's a rule I use for my writing: Follow your curiosity. When things are hard, I don’t really feel like writing about something and I’m getting agitated or bored, I start always looking for what’s unknown about the topic. I look for the spark of curiosity around what I want to know. That’s why I love contrarian thinking and why real wisdom is found in the paradoxes and contradictions. Here's an example. If you blog every week about a topic for a year – if you write 1,000 words about whatever is interesting to you, you'd be amazed by how your understanding of a topic can develop. Find something that's intriguing to you and if you can stay on that topic for just one year, 52 weeks of the year -- 1,000 words a week -- you'd have 52,000 words. That’s a book’s worth of words you just wrote! You’ll also have a better grasp on the topic than all the shallow thinkers out there. Very few people can keep up with the consistency required because they don’t follow their curiosity. They heap expectations on themselves. How do I become a best-seller? How do I get clients? How do I make a bunch of money? Don’t do that. Follow your curiosity. What's something you're curious about? And what's keeping you from diving deeper into that curiosity? #Indistractable #Curiosity #Author …see more

Amy BlaschkaA “tell” is a behavior that reveals someone’s true thoughts, intentions, or emotions inadvertently. The ability to read these signs can be a powerful #communication advantage in your #career ; here’s how: 1. Watch for non-verbal cues Customers with crossed arms as you’re pitching a new concept to them probably aren’t open to it. But if they maintain eye contact, lean slightly toward you, or mirror your body language, they like what you’re saying. 2. Listen for incongruence Ever had a conversation where someone said one thing, but the way they said it seemed off? Or what someone says doesn’t jive with their body language? Notice conflicting cues. 3. Read between the lines If you and your client have relaxed, conversational email exchanges that suddenly become more formal, it could be a signal that your project has gone off the rails. Have a live conversation to get a handle on what’s happening. 4. Pay attention When you pay #attention , you establish a baseline of verbal and non-verbal behaviors. When they deviate from the norm, you’ll be tipped off when something isn’t quite what it seems and have time to investigate. 5. Trust your gut Don’t underestimate your gut instinct. Amy BlaschkaHere’s what to do when you’re feeling unproductive: Redefine what #productivity looks like Productivity might be getting through a team Zoom call without your toddler interrupting, or managing to connect with all of your clients to see how they’re holding up. Take a break to gain perspective Sometimes the best way to be productive is to take the time to rest and reflect, allowing us to leverage the one aspect we can control: our perspective. Cut yourself—and your brain—some slack During periods of ongoing stress, our brains are wired to shut down logical thinking in favor of reactiveness to protect us from the perceived threat uncertainty brings. Be kind to yourself; it’s just your normal neurobiology. Distinguish between busy & productive Being busy can leave you wondering what you’ve accomplished. To feel more productive, establish boundaries and manage your time, treating it like the valuable and precious commodity it is. Take one action toward your goal, however small Productivity rarely comes down to grandiose gestures; it’s the small actions, done consistently over time, that matter most. Don’t forget to track & celebrate your #progress Keep track of the small wins and refer back to them when you need a boost of motivation and encouragement. #career …see more

Nir EyalHow can we make the most out of meetings? First, we have to understand the objective of meetings: gaining consensus. Meetings are NOT a forum for the organizer to hear themselves think or as a way of just “checking in.” While checking in is important, do it through asynchronous channels: email, group chat, and so on. This allows people to read updates on their own time. Second, make the person who calls the meeting send out an agenda or a "briefing doc" BEFORE the meeting. No agenda and briefing doc, no meeting! If this sounds like more effort upfront, that’s exactly the point. Requiring an agenda and a brief not only saves everyone time by getting to the answer faster, but also cuts down on unnecessary meetings by adding a bit of effort on the part of the organizer before calling one. If you’re thinking, "That sounds fine but my boss would never do that,” THAT is exactly the problem. Distraction at work is a symptom of cultural dysfunction. A company run by people not willing to talk about the problem of distraction and people who don't make changes to solve the problem, is the real problem. #Indistractable #Meetings #ProblemSolving #Change #Agenda …see more

Shama HyderRules of engagement when asking someone a question 🤔 1) Don’t ask permission to ask the question. Just Ask! 2) Provide the information they need to answer appropriately. Do: I am interested in learning more about digital marketing for the b2b space. Don’t: I want to learn marketing. 3) Don’t ask what you can find by Googling. That’s lazy. Don’t ask “why did you start this company?” when you can google and find the answer in a ton of previous interviews. Ask questions that haven’t already been answered. 4) Don’t expect an answer. People are busy! But, if you get an answer - do show your appreciation. 5) Reciprocation works! Do: I’ve purchased and read both your past books. My question is:... Nir EyalWant a technique to help manage distraction? It's called the 10-minute rule. If I find myself about to give in to some kind of distraction, I allow myself to indulge...but only after 10 minutes have passed. This approach is not about abstinence. It's about “surfing the urge” and building a habit of dealing with desire in a healthier way. Remember: Time management is pain management. We must learn to manage discomfort to become Indistractable. When you feel an urge to give in to a distraction, you have two choices: You can either sit with that sensation and explore it with curiosity (rather than contempt) or get back to the task you had planned to do. By implementing this technique, you’re riding an emotional wave like a surfer and by the end of those 10 minutes, you’d be amazed at how 99% of the time, that urge you initially felt is gone. Amy BlaschkaThough it seems counterintuitive, taking a break is the best way to make #career progress. Research shows breaks are essential to improving our moods, overall well-being, and #performance capacity. Here’s how to maximize the power of the pause: Get better at listening to your body Frequent headaches, feeling sick and tired, or unmotivated are red flags. Master the art of saying no Simplify, prioritize, and focus your attention on what matters most, and say no to everything else. Protect your time Take back your calendar and schedule blocks of uninterrupted time to be quiet, slow down, reflect, and make room for insights. Prioritize rest Maintain a reasonable and consistent bedtime, limit screen time, leave your phone outside your bedroom, and keep your bedroom’s temperature cool. Use your breaks to replenish your body, mind & spirit Nourish your body with relaxation, nutrition & movement. Enrich your mind with educational and uplifting podcasts, books, TED talks, articles, and videos. I don't work in HR and have nothing to do with hiring. 🤦♀️ A few pitched their lead generation services... Lead generation and digital marketing are my expertise. I don't need help here 😂 🤦♀️ Tons sent links to their content, demanding that I engage with them... These people CLEARLY didn't read my profile & have ZERO interest in getting to know me. 😬😩 TRY THIS INSTEAD: ✅ Do Your Research: Find some common ground, initiate REAL conversation, and include a custom connection request. ✅ Compliment Them: Tell them something nice about their education, content, or work history! ✅ Invite Them to a Virtual Coffee Talk: Chat about a common interest and ask if they would be available for a virtual coffee to connect further. Amy Blaschka“I need help.”🥺 They’re probably the hardest 3️⃣ words to say, particularly in #business . There is no shame in asking for #help , and in many instances, it can bring great relief to know that we don’t have to go it alone. Here’s how to make it easier: Cut yourself some slack❤️ None of us is perfect. And no one can be an expert in all areas, nor should you try. Instead of beating yourself up because you can’t do everything yourself, practice a little self-compassion. Realize that you’ll grow faster and go farther🚀 Not reaching out can often keep you from making #progress . If you find yourself struggling to keep promises you made to yourself, despite your best intentions, you might require an extra hand. Consider that your ask might make someone else feel good😊 A friend once reminded me that not asking for help deprives others of the opportunity to be of service. You encourage others to do so as well💁🏼♀️ When we find the courage to ask for help, modeling #vulnerability , it creates a positive ripple effect, giving others permission to do the same. It gets easier with practice✅ Remember that everyone needs some form of assistance at some time, and getting into the practice of asking for help becomes more comfortable over time. #leadership #career …see more

Nir EyalIf you don’t plan out your day, someone else is going to eat up that time for you. To combat this, I use all four steps of the Indistractable model every single day. If I find myself struggling with a particular distraction, I use tools to reflect on internal triggers and deal with them more healthily. I plan out my schedule using time boxing to have an ideal template for what is “traction” for my day ahead. Whatever is on my schedule is “traction,” everything else is a “distraction.” I am religious about removing external triggers that don’t serve me. I adjust notifications on mobile apps to reach me only when they serve me rather than me serving them. Finally, I make pacts with myself, which starts with calling myself “Indistractable.” This is an example of an identity pact. Amy BlaschkaHere are five ways you’re making it hard to work with you😳—and how to fix it: 1️⃣You’re negative Those who lead with #positivity help others feel more relaxed in their presence, making them more receptive to them and their ideas. Smiling signals that you’re approachable & kind, making you appear more likable, confident & trustworthy. 2️⃣You’re closed-minded See new ideas not as threats but as opportunities for #growth & learning. When you’re #curious , receptive to, and tolerant of new ideas and people, that openness fosters #connection . 3️⃣You’re an enigma (and not in a mysterious, cool way) When you’re clear, people understand you, what you offer, your value, what differentiates you, how you can help them & how they can assist you. #Clarity helps others know, like & #trust you. 4️⃣You wing it—a lot #Timemanagement is about prioritizing those things that matter most. Eliminate distractions and tasks that don’t serve your larger goal. Being intentional with your time helps you be more prepared. 5️⃣You’re oblivious Honing your powers of observation is essential for increasing your #awareness , and that’s nearly impossible to do when you’re multitasking. Put down your phone, give people your undivided #attention , and listen to understand, not respond. #leadership #career …see more

Amy BlaschkaWhile consistency and discipline are crucial for #career success, there’s one other essential (and unexpected) area you might be neglecting: #selfcare . Everything else tied to your professional persona (background, qualifications, soft skills, abilities, etc.) ultimately boil down to that. Thus - your resume, pitch and presentation should reflect, with data, how you have consistently and successfully made/saved money for your previous/current employer(s). Amy BlaschkaHere's how to make comparison work for—and not against—your career: Reframe your envy into a learning opportunity Instead of feeling jealous of your coworker’s or competitor’s success, study their behaviors to learn what worked and what didn’t, not to replicate their path, but to advise your own. Adopt an abundance mindset It’s possible for you and your peers to do well at the same time; it need not be an either/or situation. Amy BlaschkaHere are a few tips to help you crush your goals, even when you don’t feel like it: Think micro not macro 🔬 Progress isn’t derived from a single bold, sweeping gesture; it’s made small one step at a time. Redefine success🌟 Living and working in this new normal post-coronavirus world means finding new ways of defining and measuring success. Track your progress ✅ Enlist the help of an accountability partner, with whom you have regularly scheduled check-ins to report on your progress. Celebrate the small wins 🏆 Keep track of the small wins by recording them in a journal or electronic file. The next time you’re feeling a bit defeated, refer back to your notes to give you a much-needed boost of motivation and encouragement. Focus on making one decision 🎯 Use your awareness to focus on making one decision right now that will move you closer to your goal. Believe that you can 🧠 Those who tend to achieve, believe that they can, despite setbacks or failures. Think slow and steady, not instantaneous 🐢 As the old adage goes, slow and steady wins the race. Amy BlaschkaAre you an emotionally intelligent leader? Here are three ways you might not have as much EQ as you think (and what to do instead): 1. You pride yourself on speaking your mind. While candor in the workplace can be valuable, not every thought should be voiced immediately (or maybe, ever), especially in an emotionally-charged situation. Instead: Press the pause button. Emotionally intelligent people understand the power of taking a beat to digest and consider information before responding to it. 2. You treat every employee you manage the same. You're trying to be fair, so you employ the same management methods with every member of your team, regardless of their needs, and expect them to conform. Instead: Move away from a one-size-fits-all mentality. People are individuals, with unique needs. Take the time to learn about what your direct reports need, and then adapt your style to serve them. 3. You're "coin-operated." Being "coin-operated" means you're motivated by money—and little else. Instead: Find motivation in the challenge. When you believe passionately in your products and services, you're motivated to help find and provide solutions and value to your customers. #leadership #EQ #emotionalintelligence #career #softskills …see more

Amy BlaschkaBusy people take on everything and offer unfettered access to their time, expertise, and attention; productive people set #boundaries .🔐⏰✅ Here’s how: 1️⃣ Don’t answer emails when you should be sleeping😴 Emailing into the wee hours of the night deprives you of rest and teaches others that you’re accessible 24/7. Instead, set a cut-off time and stick to it; most things can wait until morning. 2️⃣ Ask if your focus should be on this OR that🎯 It’s fair to ask your boss or client how this new request ranks with current responsibilities so that you can focus on what’s important now. 3️⃣ Do, Decide, Delegate, or Delete📌 Not all tasks are equal. Place your to-dos in four boxes: Do it now for urgent and important items, Decide to schedule a time to do it for non-urgent but important tasks, Delegate it to someone else for urgent but unimportant things, and Delete items that are neither urgent nor important. 4️⃣ Take back your calendar🗓 You are not obligated to be always available, so carve out pockets of non-negotiable time for what’s important to you. 5️⃣ Learn how to say no❌ One way to politely decline: “While my priorities will preclude me from assisting or participating, please keep me in mind for future endeavors.” #leadership #career #IlluminateMe #timemanagement …see more

It’s in these “just real quick” moments when thirty seconds could turn into thirty minutes without you realizing it. One of the tools I use for dealing with this distraction trap is the “ten-minute rule.” If I find myself wanting to check my phone when I can’t think of anything better to do, I tell myself it’s fine to give in...but in ten minutes. This technique gives me time to do what behavioral psychologists call “surfing the urge.” When an urge takes hold, noticing the sensations and riding them like a wave—neither pushing them away nor acting on them—helps us cope until the feelings subside. If I still want to perform the action after ten minutes of urge surfing, I’m free to do it, but what I’ve found is that it’s rarely the case. Surfing the urge is a mental skill-building exercise and it helps manage the impulse towards distraction. #Indistractable #HumanBehavior #TimeManagement …see more

Carson TateIF YOU’RE A PRIORITIZER Technology Tips: 1. Check and respond to email at “low productivity” times. Follow the natural rhythm, of your day, and avoid your email inbox during those periods when you tend to do your highest-quality work. 2. Cut the tether to technology: leave your cell phone, your laptop, and/or your tablet in your office, your briefcase, or your purse rather than carrying them with you everywhere. Tools to Try: 1. Use RescueTime, an application for both your computer and mobile devices. It lets you temporarily block websites you deem distracting, tracks time spent on tasks, and alerts you if you are spending too much time on a specific task. …see more

AJ WilcoxWell, I feel like a moron... Being in advertising, I find myself regularly doing the calculation to estimate cost per conversion based on different CPCs and Conversion Rates. I always have to throw like 8 columns into an excel spreadsheet and logic through it. I finally just figured out the quick formula to shortcut it. Cost Per Click / Conversion Rate = Cost Per Conversion So a $6 CPC / 15% Conversion Rate would be a $40 CPL I feel like a total bozo that I've been doing PPC advertising for 12 years and didn't figure that out until now. Wanted to share with you fine folks in case my "Ah Ha!" moment helps any of you. …see more

Amy BlaschkaIn a world where external demands and a cacophony of noise bombard us, taking the time to turn inward and think deeply may be the ultimate luxury—and the best way to figure out what’s next in your #career . Here’s how: Be intentional with your time Treat reflection as essential to your #careerdevelopment by scheduling time to think. Slow down & stop multitasking It’s impossible to think deeply and carefully about your future while you’re multitasking. Slow down to find clarity among your chaos. Eliminate distractions Up your odds for reflection success by turning off notifications, silencing your phone, and closing down tabs. Get up & out(side) Research says walks in nature enhance brain function, reduce stress, keep you energized, and improve creativity, which enables better reflection. Allow your mind to wander During reflection, try not to limit yourself to predetermined topics, or impose any rigid standards. Pay attention to what bubbles up Use your self-awareness to pay attention to how you’re feeling, your reactions, and any new ideas that arise during reflection. Record & review your thoughts so you can take action Until you capture your thoughts and goals, you’ll never be able to devise a plan of action to achieve them. #leadership …see more

Nir EyalA quick work from home tip for all parents who have a hard time concentrating with kids at home all day 👇 • Find the silliest hat you have (or get one on Amazon) • Put it on anytime you need to concentrate and get some work done. • Let your family know that when you’re wearing this hat, you shouldn’t be interrupted unless it’s an emergency. My wife purchased one with LED lights that she calls her “concentration crown.” When she wears it, she’s clearly letting our daughter (and me) know not to interrupt her unless it’s absolutely necessary. Sometimes, we need explicit ways to signal our requests for interruption-free time. Techniques like this will help colleagues or family members pause and assess their own behaviors BEFORE they break your concentration. You’re essentially interrupting the interrupter with a clear visual signal. Any other work from home tips you’ve developed over the past few months? #Indistractable #WFH #Productivity …see more

Amy BlaschkaTo harness the power of words and improve your #communication and #career : Stop meandering and get to the point🎯 When you want to deliver a message, be intentional about it, eliminate extraneous material, and get to the point—or risk being viewed as unorganized or unsure. Focus on one takeaway☝🏼 Each piece of #content should revolve around one central theme, which forces you to home in on your message, promoting better understanding. Switch from negative to positive➕ When you use positive language, you’re perceived as more likable, supportive, and caring; using negative language paints you as critical and confrontational, even when that’s not your intent. Move from passive to active voice 🚀 Using the active voice conveys a strong, clear tone, propelling us forward. Incorporate evocative language🦄 Never again use “nice,” “good,” or “fine”—the four-letter milquetoasts of the word world. You’ll stand out, capture your audience’s attention, and ensure that your message will be more memorable. Craft your story📖 Stories that are personal and emotionally compelling engage more of the brain, and thus are better remembered than simply stating a set of facts. Once you have your story, it changes everything, including how others perceive, pay, and promote you. …see more
