#Sales is an expensive and most critical aspect for continued #success , yet #startups have setbacks in building their sales organization. I often get asked when is the right time to make the first sales hire. I believe the founders are the best first salesperson of their product. A founder should make first sales hire when: 1. Early product-market fit is established 2. Proven customer value proposition and reference ability 3. A strong cohort of early customers 4. The process/playbook for a new salesperson to succeed is created 5. Create the right financial incentives (instant gratification) for experienced salespeople Getting the “salesperson persona” is extremely critical. At the early stage, it’s most important to solve for someone hands-on, used to ambiguity, can build & #design processes, and interpret product feedback. Ideally, this person is someone who has 3-5 years of experience selling products that have similar Average Contract Values (ACV’s). Any interesting startup sales hiring stories? …see more

Alibaba Group developed an A.I. system for diagnosing the COVID-19. It can detect coronavirus in CT scans of patients’ chests with 96% accuracy against viral pneumonia cases. The algorhithm needs 20 seconds to carry out this task, while it takes 15 minutes for humans. Is it possible that a coronavirus epidemic was needed for tech companies to suddenly develop advanced technological solutions for healthcare? #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #fromchancetochoice #covid19 #coronavirus #artificialintelligence #ai #alibaba …see more

Don’t do something just for the money. #Money is a side effect of #persistence. You persist in the things you are interested in. Explore your interests. Then persist. Then enjoy all the side effects.
Airbnb isn’t perfect. But after spending about 120 nights this year in them, probably in about 40 different beds, in many different countries, states, at different price points, it overwhelmingly feels like a good thing to exist. I’m met wonderful people, been cooked for many times, helped with dead chickens and medical emergencies, had out of this world views, seen crazy tastes, met the whole families of owners, and just been able to live in places not stay. The more the site can move back to owners who want a bit of extra income, people who love to host, quirky places you don’t typically get to see, getting a local flavor etc, the more it feels brilliant. I’ve also rented out my place a lot over the last 5 years and had 100% positive experiences and loved to let people enjoy special places …see more

It's strange that we never really design any parts of our lives. Like we basically live on autopilot for 18-30 years, then look at all the things we've somehow accumulated, stuff, responsibilities, relationships and then try to move it around a bit, add a bit of fun between them. And at that point so many large things have been fixed, our ability to actually craft out the life we wanted is impossible and we'd never dared ask before what was important to us. Many assume we want to live in a house, that it should have a garden, that we should own it. Many assume we should have a single job, that's full time, that slowly pays more, that we do till the age of 60+, Many assume they want kids. And before we know it we've mortgages, commutes, fixed costs, fixed parameters. It's then pretty hard to alter things. Quite a lot of people plan their homes interiors, a lot of people plan their businesses, a lot of people plan holidays or gardens, but seems like very few people plan or design their lives. We just shuffle around things we assumed awe wanted an aggregated, often against ideas and societal expectations that come from an era of scarcity and vulnerability and bodies that wore out and education being scarce etc. Just an observation, it's not like I've done it. …see more
“If we put in enough energy to existing on the optimistic side of the scale, I reckon you’ll have a better day and the people around you will have a better day too.” Lots of lovely thoughts in Holly’s chat with Tom Foolery:
Thanks Carl. This is part of a bigger phenomenon enabled by ample liquidity, worsening market distortions, and a fascinating evolution in power structures in markets. Together they result in fascinating short-term price action and greater risk of financial instability. #markets #investing #economy …see more
This Bloomberg chart would have been unlikely if not unthinkable just a few months ago. How could junk bond issuance set a record in an economy experiencing rapidly rising defaults? The answer is of course the Fed — particularly its direct bond purchases encouraging excessive risk taking. #markets #economy #bonds …see more
Clint Eastwood is one of my favourites. I watched his latest movie, 'Mule'. The movie is about a horticulturist who becomes a drug runner, wants to live life on his own terms, becomes self-centred, lets his family down, faces the consequences but also redeems himself in the end. Most poignant for me was: 1. While living a life for yourself, don't neglect your relationships with family and friends. It gets lonely and filled with regrets 2. Everyone makes mistakes. We can choose to make good and redeem ourselves no matter the past. 3. When someone disappoints us, we cast them and hold on to grudges. Some bad moments do not have to become the sum total of the relationship. Relationships can be nurtured positively despite the disappointments In the end, families need to work through personal limitations. Love and family is the anchor in our lives. …see more

YouTube's logo and icon just got a new look today. According to Google, this new logo and icon will give more design flexibility when digital estate is limited, e.g. on a smartphone. We've all grown accustomed to the Play button icon as YouTube, so this new logo made sense to me. Thoughts? …see more
Happy Women’s Entrepreneurship Day! A study done this year showed that 83% of women have been inspired by hearing other women talk about their successes 💁🏽♀️ but 69% of women would rather minimize their successes than share. 🙅🏽♀️ See the problem? 🙃 It’s much harder to be what you can’t see. Tag a woman you admire who you wish shared her achievements more! Our girls need you. 💪🏽 #womenpreneurs #culture #entrepreneurship …see more

I quit corporate life 7 years ago with some cash in the bank...I thought I would travel around the world for a year or take a two year break. Instead, I've been learning about media and dabbling in creating content. I cover the serious topic of finance but I don't take myself too seriously. I have fun making the content. (Pic is from latest shoot in Goa!) I cover my costs such that I still have the original cash in the bank as my emergency cash fund. I say I am retired. People argue with me saying I still work...that's not retirement. Ok, call it what you will. Around the same time, someone coined financially independent, retire early (FIRE). Fine by me. What do you think - what is retirement anyway? Would you rather learn about retirement from someone who has retired (and has finance qualifications and experience) or someone who is struggling? #personalfinance …see more
