‪by far the most interesting thing i learned this week is that aggregate bank ROTE has not recovered from pre 2008 highs &i stagnates at 10%. ‬ ‪a group of banks have, the astute digital & innovation leaders, but the main pack has not. ‪and this even with QE, favorable treatment from c-banks and return to profitability. also, most banks claim too much regulation is to blame.‬ ‪this is rather damning. ‪a majority of banks the world over are walking zombies and will not survive long term and/or would not survive a severe economic downturn. ‪the banking landscape has already changed drastically, even though it can be claimed fintech startups have failed to disrupt at scale or tech has been hyped too much (crypto, blockchain, defi, AI, chatbots...) or disruption is only skin deep. ‪fair pushbacks but misleading. #banking #banks #fintech #innovation #disruption #financialservices …see more
