There has probably never been a better time to set up a business. More than ever it seems like the success of products / businesses / ideas / films / shows / music etc, is democratic. Fewer gatekeepers to get in the way, distribution costs tend to zero, advertising now easier to do for niches. Time to focus on understanding what people want and to simply make better products/services/experiences.

#Entrepreneurship is about passion and innovation and also risk and tenacity. But there are the personal costs of entrepreneurship, which form part of the darker side of the startup journey. HBR Ascend
I got to go behind the scenes at Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic where this billionaire is pouring hundreds of millions of his own dollars into sending civilizans to space... STOP THE MADNESS! This was INSANE!
WHY I WON'T VOTE AND MAYBE YOU SHOULDN'T EITHER I'm not going to vote. I've never voted in a Presidential election. I've been vote shamed all of my life. It's part of the American religion that if you don't vote, then you are a bad person. "You're not entitled to an opinion if you don't vote!" I've never seen politics so muddy as this year. And when you get in the mud with a pig, the pig gets happy and you get dirty. There are better ways to help society than voting. And most people probably should not be voicing their opinions in an election. And maybe a vote is actually a bad thing for society. This is my "Guide to Not Voting". It's really hard for me to write a book. For one thing: it's super boring to sit in front of a computer for 3000 hours typing letters. And then everyone might hate what you write. But in this book I really wrote what I needed to read. Every decade of my life I've had to reinvent. Sometimes I got it right, sometimes wrong. I want to reinvent now. Maybe I have 3-5 reinventions left in me. 3-5 chances to get very good at new things in the limited time left... http://amzn.to/2iUI48H …see more
We really really have to be more aware of survivorship bias. The internet gives us the ability to find and share every success story in the world. And discard (without noticing) the failures. We have to accept the role of luck way more than we do. It takes many forms. Good parents, good connections. A good brain. Fortuitous timing. Financial backing. Friends in high places. Chance meetings. The list goes on. Hard work is probably one of the least important factors there is. It’s just the one we feel most in control of. …see more
Simplify your life. The simpler every part of your life is, the more power you have to make significant changes in the world.
Think of your #startup as a ship. Short term #challenges are like holes that need to be plugged to prevent excess water from sinking you from within. The elements of the sea may force your startup to course-correct constantly. For long term #success , the captain has to take control of the wheel and ensure the masts are taking advantage of wind flow and direction. You navigate with your compass staying true to the course. Balancing both short term and long term goals is essential to success. …see more
I’m no longer editing my videos — which is incredibly hard for me. 🥺 But here’s the thing: 1). I’m an entrepreneur first & a content creator second. My business is my priority. Outsourcing this part allows me to still create and focus on my business. 2). I need to lean into my strengths, which is the messaging. The story. And by doing that I can empower someone else by allowing them to lean into theirs. Video editing. 3). Allowing others to edit for me, ensures that I have ultimate clarity around my brand. Because everything created still has to feel like me. Just something to think about if you’re a creator building a business. Do you edit your own content or do you outsource? And why? Also, mad shoutout to Eric Didier for being such a beast behind the 🎥 💻. #justQ 🖖🏽🖤 …see more

One of the reasons many large companies mess up is how they think of Technology. For the first 40 years of its existence, "IT" was basically a support function. It was an administrative function, rather like stationery procurement, or finding office cleaners, or photocopier maintenance. It was a cost center, the role was to spend the least money with them and for it not to be noticed. IT were always the people in the darkest room, the cramped office. They'd try to persuade Leadership teams to upgrade to Windows XP, or the benefit of a new server or to invest in new laptops and nobody ever cared to listen. And now the world is IT. Some companies now have CTO's to evangelise the power of tech at the highest levels, to orchestrate culture around it, but most have no senior representation of Tech in any forum. New technology is a lever to what we can do, it aids our imagination, multiplies our potential, saves us time. New tech is a vital part of understanding modern behaviors and changing business models. And yet it's remarkable how many companies still think of it as something to outsource, to reduce, to save on. …see more
It’s mad how binary the work from home vs work from office debate is. How about this..... When life is normal, you work around the best way to get things done. Which will involve a variety of wonderful things. Working in the office at the same time as others often, working from home at other times and on the schedule you want, All staff away days, remote synchronous checkins. It’s a tool kit to use to get the most from everyone on their terms. …see more

Captures well how many in financial #markets feel about monetary and, to a (much) lesser extent, fiscal policy in the US/Europe.
