I had the opportunity today to do a guest lecture at the GIBS Business School (Gordon Institute of Business Science) for the elective course on Digital Transformation. The very engaging discussion amongst students from primarily banks, telcos, insurers and retailers focused on how organizations should execute on the digital transformation journey and the challenges that they were struggling with. This story made me pause. Who hasn’t had a day when you feel overwhelmed and hassled. Most often that gives impetus and justification to be our lesser self. It is a good reminder to be vigilant about throwing around negative energy. Remember the moment in the Giesha movie where the Chairman offers this little girl who is despondent a handkerchief and buys her icecream. This kindness changes the course of her life. We need to remember that simple acts of kindness can make the world a better place. …see more

I really wish the world was more appreciative of great design. So often huge hardware projects are completely undermined by poor design. Pretty much every single Public Transit system has terribly designed interfaces for buying a ticket, San Fran and New York being the worst, London having the best. Grocery store self checkouts, McDonalds self serve kiosks, it's like we're happy to spend hundreds of millions on hardware and installation, and nothing on thinking about user flows. …see more
My wife, Julie, and I make sure we have time scheduled for each other. Twice a month, we plan a special date. Sometimes, we see a live show or indulge in an exotic meal. But mostly, we just walk and talk for hours. We know that this time is cemented in our schedules! How do you strike a balance between the personal and the professional in your life? The philosophy of "Unlearning" is great one to adopt. When I moved back to India in 2006, it hit home, that I have to unlearn in order to learn what works, what is different. It requires humility.

Here is what today's highly volatile price action in GameStop looks like so far. It's intensifying interest in the "retail versus hedge funds" narrative, as well as that of the "establishment" crushing a "retail uprising." It's attracting increasing interest from politicians and regulators And all this seems to be crowding out any and all consideration of the larger issues of financial stability, pressures on efficient price signaling and resource allocation, and other market functioning aspects. #investing #investment #markets #economy #investors #equities #stocks #gme #gamestop …see more
Quite an intra-session reversal for US stocks. After significant early gains, the Dow ended flat while the S&P and NASDAQ closed 0.9-2.1% lower. These reversals pale in comparison to Tesla 's: An almost 20 percentage point turnaround as the early 16% surge gave way to a 3% decline. #markets #stocks #investing #investors #tsla …see more

I never check my physical mail. It's by far the least secure, most expensive, slowest, most unreliable and most inefficient form of communication with me. And yet it's how all the most important documents in the world I need to see are sent. Much like waving a pen on a document is still considered the perfect way to authorize something. I don't really understand the modern world. It's as if the internet is brand new. …see more

You’ll never regret investing in yourself; here are five easy ways to do it: 1. Get clarity and alignment on your goals When you’re clear on what you want, you can choose how to spend your time and where and with whom to invest your attention to move closer to your goals. 2. Dedicate time to reading Reading is one of the quickest ways to acquire and assimilate new information and grants you access to insights outside your area of expertise, which can fuel creativity and innovation. 3. Learn to say no Since time is a limited and non-renewable resource, invest yours wisely by prioritizing and focusing your attention on what matters most, and setting boundaries to protect it. 4. Say yes to growth opportunities Saying yes isn’t always bad. It invites collaboration and empowers and affirms others, and more importantly, can help you grow by pursuing opportunities outside your comfort zone. 5. Prioritize your wellbeing You can’t pour from an empty cup. Focus nourishing your body, mind, and spirit with proper nutrition and movement, rest, reflection, time in nature, and by visiting with friends and loved ones. And employ self-compassion, treating yourself the way you would a treasured friend, by swapping self-criticism for supportive self-talk. #career #leadership #goals …see more

You can’t do that, she told me. Cindy was a VP in the Marketing department. I was on my way to see the CEO of HBO. I was a “junior analyst programmer” in the IT department. A very exciting job. I made $40,700 per year. It was 1995. I lived on a foam futon and shared a room with a chess hustler from Washington Square Park. The toilet only worked randomly. I had one suit, which I kept in a garbage bag next to my futon and took it out every morning. I was very popular with the ladies.
