Headspace Inc. HQ was named the “Happiest HQ in the World” and after visiting for the first time this week, I can see why. The future of work isn’t about the number of perks, but the intentionality of those benefits. I’ve been reporting and writing about #socialpolicy affecting children and families for the past 3 decades, and unfortunately, I’ve produced far too many stories about tragedies and incompetence and mismanagement. Today was such an incredibly uplifting experience because I got to interact with the men and women behind the headlines, whose dedication and commitment saves scores of lives and supports hundreds of families every year—but we rarely see those “good stories.” Kathy and I will be helping YFS develop a set of consistent, authoritative messages that empower the department to change the narrative about child welfare in Mecklenburg County.
