If you're an entrepreneur: this is what we signed up for when we decided to be entrepreneurs. Risk. Pain. Struggle. Uncertainty. Responsibility. So yes, COVID-19 sucks for most of us. But it doesn’t matter if this is a good thing or a bad thing. It’s a thing. And it’s happening. Now we have to figure it out. That is what it means to be an entrepreneur. Not posting videos on LinkedIn or Instagram. Not bringing on a bunch of unpaid interns to make it look like you have a big team. Not giving a bunch of advice when you haven’t done anything yet. It’s a vow to “figure it out." We're all in this together. #justQ 🖖🏾🖤 …see more

Community is a large reason why our company was just voted one of Wisconsin's "Coolest Companies" and why we have grown to where we are. I had a conversation with someone recently, "I love your company. But because I identify as a misfit. I always have." They were able to see themselves in our story. I want to push people to build their own communities. Facebook has already made a shift to building its platform around its group's feature. And in the future, I imagine niche communities will play a bigger role in social media. If you're not doing it already, start building a community [if this is something that is aligned with your goals]. Thoughts? #justQ 🖖🏽🖤 #entrepreneurship #business …see more

I've always wanted to break the stereotype that my generation is lazy, self-centered, and entitled. Little did I know, I was far from the only one.  This past weekend at the #genztakeover in Seattle, I met so many incredible, ambitious, authentic, and intelligent people my age. We came together to host a FREE event that covered #socialmedia and #humanitarian causes.  What I Learned:  Many Gen Z-ers want to use social media for good. They want to raise the voices of those who have been disenfranchised and silenced.  Thank you to everyone who made this event possible.  Richard YoungJun Kim   Sam Park   Joel Hansen   Kenji Yukinaga-Paradis   Chad Oda   Natasha Takahashi   Kasim Siddiqui   Gregg L. ‪Hard not be scared by the size/speed of this unprecedented spike in US jobless claims. Indications are that, due to systems being overwhelmed, they under-estimate the financial pain and economic insecurity society is already feeling ... and this, sadly, with more job losses ahead‬. #economy #jobs …see more

The notion of a “tech company” seems very unhelpful.  Increasingly they are just companies that get the modern world.

I was so busy today, I didn’t even have time to post about the exciting collaboration between the World Health Organization and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital being announced this week during United Nations General Assembly events. But here are some images from a wonderful reception I attended Thursday night. Meeting the daughter of St. Jude founder, actor Danny Thomas, was terrific! Actress, writer, activist and philanthropist Marlo Thomas is deeply committed to fueling her father’s vision of helping beat the odds for children with #cancer worldwide. Her husband, legendary journalist Phil Donahue was charming and witty. What can I say? Just this—that I’ll share the news about the WHO-St. Jude partnership tomorrow. Stay tuned! #UNGA #WHO #StJude #childhealth #cancertreatment #cancerresearch #globalhealth #philanthropy …see more

Too many entrepreneurs fall into the trap of building products that are only a little better than the ones people are already using. They build the future of their companies on the hope that marginally better products will be enough to change consumer behavior. But that isn't exactly right... Here's the truth: better products don’t always win—especially if a large number of users have already adopted a competing product. Harvard Professor John Gourville has said, “Many innovations fail because consumers irrationally overvalue the old while companies irrationally overvalue the new.” For a new product to win out, it can't just be a LITTLE better. It has to be MUCH better in order to escape customer inertia. Once customers have formed a habit of using a particular product or service, it doesn’t matter if a nominally better service comes along -- they won’t switch. This is why habit-formation is such a powerful tool in business. Habits give companies a huge competitive advantage. When people get hooked to using a product, they don't easily switch to a competing product. #Hooked #UX #Design #HabitFormation #ProductDesign …see more

I remember the nauseating despair I felt, faced with the idea of confessing the obstacles caused by my invisible illness... I had just recently been hired as a content creator and blog author and couldn't even read the standard computer screen due to my aggressive form of Optic Neuritis ignited by Multiple Sclerosis. I quickly searched for tools that could support my vision impairment, but when the neurological deterioration affected my mobility, this disability couldn't be hidden any longer. The perfection pressure in our society had me ashamed and hiding every detail of my unique situation... October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month as we shine a light on how to create a safe space for all ability levels to thrive. This article is based on a previous collaboration with inclusion expert and leadership consultant, Alissa Carpenter, M.Ed (She/Her/Hers) . Please share as we continue to shine a light on the differently-abled community having the utmost strength, not weakness. #Inclusion #Disability #DisabilityEmployment #HumanResources …see more

I always want to live my life intentionally. Something I think about a lot – kids will be able to look back on their parents (or anyone's) life. Their entire life. That is kind of awesome and kind of terrifying. I don't want kids any time soon, but if I get to that point I want them to see a human that was relentless. Made his mark. And used his voice. If you're reading this sometime around 2058 – I hope that is true. What's your Moral Code? #justQ 🖤 …see more

Here’s why the best leaders embrace “I don’t know”: They know that cockiness isn’t the same as confidence. An arrogant, emotionally immature know-it-all does most of the talking; a confident leader with #EQ is self-aware enough to admit to not having all the answers and is willing to listen to others who might. They understand that being human is more important than being right. When you can say “I don’t know” with authority and sincerity, it shows that you’re willing to be vulnerable and a perfectly imperfect human. Rather than an untouchable who’s always right, you’re viewed as someone genuine who cares about getting it right. They rely on and are open to learning from others. The best leaders aren’t threatened by intelligent individuals; they surround themselves with smart people because they’re open to learning from others. They demonstrate intellectual humility. Research shows that leaders willing to recognize that what they think and believe might be wrong have an advantage over those who rely upon ego and power, gaining influence & earning others’ respect and loyalty. They understand that “I don’t know” isn’t the end; it’s just the beginning. The savviest leaders aren’t content with giving up; they’re empowered by three more words: “I’ll find out.” #leadership …see more
