Delegate the tasks that you are terrible at, If you don't have the skills it's better to pass those along to others. Focus on your strengths and delegate your weaknesses.

Feeling bad is not bad. It’s natural. We all experience feelings of boredom, uncertainty, loneliness, anxiety, and stress. Our species has evolved to feel perpetually perturbed. We’re designed to aim higher, dream bigger, and constantly improve our condition. These uncomfortable feelings we experience can be harnessed to do great things. They can be the rocket fuel that helps us live more productive and fulfilling lives. We can harness these feelings and use this discomfort to move us toward healthy traction rather than harmful distraction. Feeling bad isn’t bad. It’s what we do with those feelings that dictate whether or not we’re living on our own terms. #Indistractable #Fulfillment #Values …see more

To put #longevity in perspective, the average age of a #Fortune500 company is 40 to 50 years, and even that sounds astonishingly long for startups who think of longevity in single digits. Worldwide, there are many companies that are more than 200 years old! What can we learn from companies which have passed the test of times? …see more

Real talk: My first two companies failed. A big difference between those startups and my current company is this: there is now one person accountable for every major area of our business. 2019 was our best year. But it was also a very hard year because we spent the bulk of it working with our business coach [ Rebecca Heidepriem ]. We were getting organized, working on systems & processes, and just making our services better. It was painful 😅. In a good way. 2020 is already our best year in business and we're only in Q1. There should only be one person accountable for each part of the business. For smaller teams that one person can be accountable for multiple parts of the business, but you should never have two people accountable for the same area. Because nothing gets done that way. Someone has to be in charge. Sales is a HUGE part of my role. But I report to Izzy when it comes to sales because he's accountable for that part of the business. Whereas I'm accountable for the overall vision. It helps us stay organized and make more money. And who doesn't like more money... 😜 #justQ 🖖🏾🖤 #startups #entrepreneurship …see more

Want a better chance at that job you want to get hired for? ‘Translate’ your CV to the language the company is using. Focus on 2 elements in your CV: Title - make sure your title fits the job description. If the job description lists ‘software engineer’, don’t use ‘Backend engineer’ in your CV. If there’s a way to get a perfect match, use it. Keywords - read the full job description. Find what matters in that job. And put as many keywords as possible in your CV. Pro tip - So many companies are using bots to screen CV. So use the EXACT same words. Use spaces before and after. Don’t let the bots rule you out. Whatever you do, DO NOT LIE. Especially in the skill section, you will be easily spotted during the interview phase. Once you get caught lying, there’s no turning back. Does it take time to match your CV with different positions? Yes, it does. Getting hired is a full-time job. #people #hr #skills …see more

I had a great time in Ingelheim giving a talk about why healthcare needs a trip to Mars at an internal event of Boehringer Ingelheim . They decorated the whole lecture hall to make it look like a spaceship and I made the audience members the first colonists to Mars. We examined what kind of care they would receive there and what we can learn from it to improve healthcare on Earth today. Have an excellent weekend! #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #fromchancetochoice #speaker #keynote #speakerlife #boehringer #boehringeringelheim #mars #marscolonization #healthcareonmars …see more

Good morning. Wishing you a good weekend. It's been many decades since I've gone 9 weeks without getting on a plane. This Bloomberg article, drawing parallels between air travel and "open-heart surgery," does excite one about doing so again any time soon. https://lnkd.in/e9zWtcB …see more

Generally speaking we massively overestimate the future change that comes from Hardware, and underestimate the change that comes from Software. It's Uber, Airbnb, Seamless/Deliveroo/Spotify, Hotel Tonight, Dockless bikes, etc that has changed the world. Not self driving cars, 3D printed houses, smart ovens, NFC hotel locks, etc. I keep thinking maybe soon this will change, that flying cars, pre fab homes, eBikes will be the next wave, but I'm not sure, it's more likely to be better multimodal travel apps, ways to work from home and be trusted, dynamic pricing to even out demand on roads/trains etc. …see more

I'm pretty sure nothing breeds self doubt more than writing a book. It is agonizing. I spend days a week thinking it will be awful, 2 days thinking it may work, and one wondrous day of excitement that it could, somehow, be fantastic.

Someone told me I was amazing yesterday. I thanked them but revisited the conversation later. I'm no more, or less, amazing than the person [socially distanced 😅] next to me. ☑ It's all perception. It's brand. It's the leverage that I now have that makes me more "attractive." And anyone can do that. Anyone can build that. Those that do will be much better off in the future. The world is a crowded & competitive place already. But there will be a day when a machine can do what you do... better than you do it. Organization, marketing, gaming, writing, running, jumping, doesn't matter. In my opinion, it will be less about quality and more about the art & connection. So start focusing on building brand equity now. #justQ 🖖🏽🖤 …see more

This week, the #500family gained a new member: Megan Cantwell , our new social media intern. Here’s are the 3 ways she stood out in her interview: 1. Remained Calm - Many of the candidates I interviewed were visibly nervous. Megan remained calm and was able to smile and laugh which made her much more personable. 2. Thank You - Megan was one of only 3 candidates who sent a thank you email after each round of interviews. 3. Great Questions - Interviewing for an internship isn’t the most technical thing in the world. That said, Megan was quick to ask questions about our culture and the day-to-day responsibilities, as well as, ask me about my experience at the company. I’m happy to have her on board for the next few months. For those who may be interested, direct message me if you want to be notified for future internship opportunities at 500. #interns #internship …see more

Despite all the madness in the world, COVID-19 crisis could potentially have some positive outcomes: 1) Many schools, particularly K-12, which haven't had online contents are rushing to create digital materials for students. That will help make a leap on e-learning across all stages of education system. 2) Many other small businesses particularly the brick & mortars (e.g. ballet or piano classes) which lost their footprints are becoming more creative, creating and distributing their contents online which could unlock new business opportunities for them. 3) Organizations in totally different disciplines are coming together in new ways to cope with the coronavirus: Zoom offers K-12 students access to its videoconferencing software for free. The Gates Foundation, Wellcome & Mastercard are committing $125M in funding to companies developing treatments for the coronavirus. 4) Many companies that haven't been fully prepared to support #WorkFromHome needed to move to that direction. 5) Despite "social distancing," the deep human connections will get stronger & our communities will hopefully continue get tighter. China sent medical aid to Italy & Spain. Many offer help to their neighbors on Nextdoor. #positivethinking #beingoptimistic #elearning #coronavirus #covid19 #socialdistancing …see more
