Is Social Media FAKE? I get this question quite a bit. Most recently, I heard it yesterday while speaking at the US Chamber of Commerce Business Summit, and it inspired me to share this video. This was my take last year when an Australian model announced that her social media was indeed fake. I hope you guys are enjoying watching these videos as much as I'm enjoying sharing them with you! …see more
Your biggest #career saboteur is often someone you wouldn’t expect who can be harsher than any external force—YOU. Here’s how to quiet your inner critic: Think progress, not perfection When things don’t exactly go as planned, reframe your expectations and perception—taking a risk results in one of two things: success or learning. Either way, that’s #progress , which deserves to be celebrated. Swap self-criticism for supportive self-talk Many of us unconsciously fall victim to self-sabotaging talk. By upping your awareness of your use of negative #selftalk , you’ll see how self-defeating it can be and can instead replace it with something more supportive. Treat yourself the way you would a treasured friend Cut yourself some slack and employ #selfcompassion to help you reframe the situation, view yourself as a work-in-progress, and treat yourself with #kindness . Ask for feedback from trusted allies When you see yourself through the eyes of a friend, mentor or colleague, you’ll get a more balanced and supportive perspective than your own and quell your self-sabotage. Prioritize your well-being Being intentional with your #selfcare not only replenishes you by nourishing your body, enriching your mind, and recharging your spirit; it also helps silence your inner critic. …see more
If you think the world is distracting now, just wait a few years. Things will only become more distracting. One of the major competitive advantages in the workplace is being the type of person who can sit down, focus, and complete the work they intended to. Research tells us that we do our best work when we handle one task at a time. Being able to manage procrastination, stay productive, and become indistractable is more critical now than ever before. But more than that, learning to manage distraction allows us to live with personal integrity. You can be as honest with yourself as you are with others. #Indistractable #Productivity #Skills #Intention …see more
I had the privilege of doing the keynote address at the 2019 Rising Star South Africa summit where I had the opportunity to engage with 200 of the top talent in our country on the topic of “Harnessing Trust”. It’s so easy to be despondent when times are as tough as they are now. It was wonderful to see these future leaders show belief in our country, our continent and were willing to take on the challenge to help us realize our collective potential. How to recognize and combat #fear : Red flag #1: Negative self-talk rules your internal dialogue Self-sabotaging talk kills dreams and is a self-fulfilling prophecy. It plants seeds of doubt, so we succumb to the negative stories echoing in our heads. How to combat it: Change the stories you tell yourself Words have power. Replace self-sabotaging talk with self-affirming talk, abandon limiting beliefs, and adopt a growth-focused mindset. Red flag #2: “________ is holding me back” It’s easy to think that other forces—your boss, Coronavirus—block your path. What prevents you from growing isn’t external; it’s internal. How to combat it: Take responsibility for your growth Muster the courage to acknowledge and tackle your fears to get out of your own way, gain traction, and go after your #goals . Red flag #3: You’re “should-ing” all over yourself You have a good life, despite the uncertainty of COVID-19 swirling around you. You should be grateful, happy, and feel guilty for wanting something different when so many would kill to be in your shoes. How to combat it: Realize that “good enough” rarely is It’s hard to admit what you want and easy to settle for something short of that “risky” path. Lose the fear about going after what’s missing and start to explore. #growth …see more
Today it’s Thanksgiving in the United States, a day when we give thanks for the goodness in our lives. I feel so blessed to have amazing family and friends, many with whom I’ll be spending the day. I’m grateful for my good health and wellbeing, and for the opportunity to partner with fantastic clients to put my creative talents to their highest and best use. But if I’m being honest, I’m thankful for the bad stuff too. You know, the disappointments, the unhappy or sad news, the lost business, the trolls, and the challenges that sometimes make me want to give up. But I don’t. Having the contrast between life’s highs and lows helps me cherish the good even more, and reminds me that nothing—but change—is certain. So if you’re feeling good, one of the best ways to show your gratitude is to spread some of that goodness around to others. Because giving thanks is contagious. Incredible! So glad LinkedIn's newsfeed of helpful content is now public! I'm always supportive of more visibility and opportunity for content to be discoverable outisde the platform. According to the Help Page: Previously, sharing a post to Public on LinkedIn meant that anyone logged into their LinkedIn account is able to see it. Beginning in July 2017, you can now choose to make it truly public, to anyone on and off LinkedIn. This means that even people who are not logged into LinkedIn can see your post. Sharing publicly in this way allows your post to reach more people. This Public setting for posts on and off Linkedin (*LinkedIn ) is only available for posts created on LinkedIn desktop, and the iOS and Android mobile apps. To take advantage of this setting, please make sure that your mobile app is updated to version 9.7.6490 on iOS and version 0.140.89 on Android. Posts created on other LinkedIn sharing platforms, such as InShare and Elevate, that use the Public setting will continue to be visible only to those logged into LinkedIn. Note: You won’t be able to change the visibility of a post that was shared before this feature was introduced, including the re-share of such a post. …see more

When I first heard that schoolgirls in Western #Kenya were being required to undergo mandatory tests for female genital mutilation and pregnancy, I was reminded once again why my voice does not belong only to me. It belongs to women and girls everywhere, because so many of them have no say in what happens to them. I lived in Kenya for 8 years, so Kenyan schoolgirls aren't just exotic concepts to me. The fact that so many who've survived the incredible trauma of #FGM and sexual abuse will be forced to endure these invasive, humiliating examinations just breaks my heart. I acknowledge the stated attempt to measure the scope of the problems. But why isn't there more effort to investigate and humiliate the people who torture and exploit these young girls? Why aren't there stricter laws to punish people who support and perform FGM, and who rape young girls? Why do #womenandgirls always have to bear the brunt of the shame and ostracism that flows from the violence committed against them? While I have a voice, I'll keep asking these questions.
