Ghosting has to stop. A company gets in touch with you, inquires about your availability, and then - poof. Vanishes. You go to a job interview, you feel OK/good about the process, they tell you they’ll be in touch. And then… crickets. It’s not only companies. Candidates do that all the time. Answering and then ignoring, scheduling a job interview and not showing up, not returning any calls. Ghosting usually saves you 1-2 minutes of inconvenience. But it brands you as a douche forever. No one likes uncertainty. Whatever you are - a candidate, a recruiter or a sourcer - treat people like you want to be treated. Be responsible. Learn to say ‘sorry, but no’. Stop ghosting. #ghosting #career #hr #people …see more

The biggest business lesson I’ve learned in the last decade of being an entrepreneur is that it is indeed all 👏🏽 about 👏🏽 the 👏🏽relationships. Last night two of my favorite things: #books and #diadelosmuertos collided to support The San Antonio Public Library foundation via the epic Catrina Ball. Hosted and attended by some of my favorite people. A spooky good time was had by all. Happy almost Halloween, LinkedIn Fam. Check out my Instagram (link in comments) for more pictures from the night. Can you guess my costume? A surprise present for the winner! #halloween #publiclibraries …see more

"Ethics is knowing the difference between what you have a right to do and what is right to do." - Potter Stewart When you face an ethical dilemma, what should you choose? What guides your compass? Who do you go to for advice? Whose life offers the values and footsteps to follow? For me, I try to pause and weigh what is right in the short term and what is right in the long-term and choose the long term path despite the short term setbacks. Empathy guides my moral compass. The values that guide me comes from the example of my father's life and also, the reflections from reading many biographies. Generally, I listen to my heart the most to guide me. …see more
Innovation has stopped being about meaningful advancement and is now just a cheap PR device and it's depressing me. Every PSFK update is just a list of PR stunts. KFC using VR to train workers, Bot's to pick jeans, Burger King makes it's own Cryptocurrency, AR to select furniture, and endless Pop up stores. Why can't we use empathy, design, thinking and technology to actually make a difference?
Working from home has made every mother's responsibilities much more intense everywhere. If you feel you should have done something more or guilty about not giving more to work and home - take a deep breath and have #selfcompassion first. Give yourself permission to do the best you can and be happy with that. Set aside the guilt. Being a working mom might make you feel like you're always disappointing somebody, but don't end up disappointing yourself. A happy mother is a good mother. #WorkingMothers …see more

I never wanted to be seen as a black entrepreneur. I never wanted race to be a part of my story. I just wanted to be an entrepreneur. I didn't want to be the best "black" entrepreneur. I wanted to be the best. The older I get... the more I see the flaw in that thinking. The more evil that comes to light... the more I change. The older I get, the more I realize that it is my responsibility to embrace everything that I am. For all of the others like me growing up with crap circumstances & hearing things like: "Odds are you'll be in jail." "You'll be making minimum wage your whole life." "Don't be angry... you might scare people." Growing up, seeing people cross the street when they see you coming. People refusing to shake your hand. Wondering if your life is in danger because of the color of your skin. I have been a full-time entrepreneur for coming on 4 years. I'm praised for doing cool things. For being an amazing person. And yet I've neglected this. I am so proud to be who I am. To be where I'm from. To be what I am. And I promise that I will use my platform to bring, to be, and to encourage change. #justQ 🖖🏽🖤 …see more
