The biggest mistake I see brands making is thinking their competitor set is how they see it, not how people see it. Uber's app changes my expectation of FedEx, Airlines customer service is compared to Amazons, HSBS's website with Airbnb's. Your competitor set may seem small, but consumers expectations are set by best in class of all categories. Don't benchmark against the people you expect to.

‘Jana Gana Mana’ sung today is just one stanza of the original version. The Sanskritised Bengali version is actually five verses long and reflects the country’s independence struggle, culture and values. #RabindranathTagore wrote this in 1911, it was adopted as national anthem in 1950. I found this 'silent' version of our National anthem soul-endearing. Jai Hind! 74th #independenceday Video Credits: BIG Cinemas …see more

My annual reminder that customer service is a market investment to maximize not a logistics cost to minimize. We spend $600bn on advertising per year with the wonderful dream that one day someone wants to talk to a company. ...... and the moment they do , we consider it something to reply to most cheaply, not the magical moment when we get to engage in further marketing and seduction. It’s absolute insanity and brought to us by idiots in management consulting. …see more

I wish it was more widely understood that we need less choice of better things. This is the case in all directions. I don’t need Amazon to offer me 1000 SKU’s of TV, I need it to offer the 60 best ones. I don’t need Clubhouse to allow ever more people to make content, I need it to curate the best stuff. I don’t need Kayak to show me 1000 hotels, just 15 like Hotel Tonight, I don’t need to pick from 350 bizarrely named health insurance plans, just offer me 4 great ones. Since the dawn of time we’ve been wired for scarcity, we have long craved more, more was better. But now abundance is generally the problem. We need help navigating too many choices and too much complexity, not access to ever more options. We need more confidence in the decisions we make, not more decisions to make …see more

When I first started writing my book, Indistractable, I had trouble staying on task, and at first, I blamed technology for distracting me. But then I noticed that even when I got rid of the tech gadgets I thought were to blame, I would find other things to grab my attention. It wasn’t until I dove much deeper and began to ask myself why I was shifting my attention that I realized the root cause. I learned that all too often, the cause of distraction isn’t what’s happening outside of us but rather what is happening inside of us. Distraction and procrastination aren’t evidence of a character flaw or moral failing. They also aren’t caused by some evil plot by tech companies. Rather, they are caused by our inability to deal with uncomfortable sensations like boredom, stress, and anxiety. What do you think? How do you deal with uncomfortable feelings? Do you escape them with distractions? #Indistractable #EmotionalState #Tech #Distraction …see more

DON’T SAY “I DON’T HAVE TIME.” SAY, “IT’S NOT A PRIORITY.” This is more accurate language, says Fast Company writer Laura Vanderkam, author of I Know How She Does It. “I could tell you I don’t have time to train for a marathon, but that is not true; I just don’t want to! Using this language reminds me that time is a choice. If I’m not happy about the way I’m spending my time, I probably have the ability to change it,” asserts Vanderkam. Think about where you need to start being honest with yourself and your priorities. Everything cannot be a priority. The sooner you admit this, the easier it becomes to focus on your real priorities. …see more

‘The trouble with most of us is we would rather be ruined by praise than saved by criticism.’ – Norman Vincent Peale, author of ‘The Power of Positive Thinking.’ Welcoming criticism is easier said than done. Undoubtedly feeling hurt and of being judged is inevitable. Sometimes we have to ignore criticism because it can also cripple us from proceeding on unknown paths. How to incorporate #criticism into our journey? 1. Introspect - Evaluate the comment in a detached and objective way. 2. Think from your heart - Don’t be angry with the person, see them as your well-wishers in your evolution. If possible, thank the person for giving you feedback. 3. Understand the gaps - Some times the gaps are real and many times a perception. Resolve to make small changes you can make to be the person you want to be. When giving critical feedback; the tone, the words, and the intent matters. 1. The #intent always has to be to help someone to raise their benchmark because they are competent to achieve a lot more. 2. The #tone of fairness and words that are not demeaning is important. …see more

When we've understood the power of "digital stuff" we won't be printing out airline boarding passes like in 2005, or have mobile boarding passes like 2015, we won't have passes at all. Tech will only be here when it vanishes. It means we stop digitizing old processes and metaphors and constructs of the analogue world, but we build around the new possibilities of what is now possible from scratch.

Yesterday I shared an experience of mine that ruffled some feathers and I had absolutely NO idea until a stranger brought it to my attention. The issue? This person approached conflict by attacking me. It was completely inappropriate and reinforced the importance of eloquence and grace when delivering feedback. I wanted to take this opportunity to... ➡ Apologize if I caused any pain - that certainly was NOT my intent as someone who encourages inclusion, inspiration, and empowerment, living through adversity. ➡ Emphasize the importance of feedback and to step up with grace and heart when you see something that seems a bit off. 9x out of 10, when something offends you, it's out of IGNORANCE, not HATE. It's IMPERATIVE to keep this in mind when you approach someone who has offended you. Take the opportunity to EDUCATE them and GROW together. Remind yourself that we are ALL brothers and sisters of the human race, no matter what differentiates us. We have TOO MUCH HATE in this world. The moment we start to work together to SOLVE problems we'll grow as a community and combat negativity and mental illness. Be the difference and speak up - but do it with heart❤ #Inclusion #Feedback #Leadership #Storytelling #Success#ChantelShares #Management …see more
