People often say, “If I could tell my 30 year old one piece of advice I’d say nothing because I needed to learn all of those mistakes.” That’s fine. It’s beautiful and true. But if I had to tell my daughter advice, I don’t want her to make the same mistakes I did. I tell her:  http://bit.ly/2yUiCL5 …see more

I had a conversation with one of my employees last week that went something like this 👇🏽 Me: I am the lowest paid employee. Along with all of the other founders. I understand the game. I understand that from a business perspective it would be smart to let everyone go and to skate by until this is all over. I get that. But that would also defeat the purpose of why we did this in the first place. For you. And for people like you. I’m not going to pay myself. Founders aren’t going to pay themselves. Because you all mean everything to us. And we’re confident that together we will figure it out. But I need to know that you’re with us. I can’t promise that we will be a company three months from now. I can’t promise that paychecks will come in on time anymore. But I can promise that we got you and we will figure it out. Them: I am with you for as long as you'll have me. I'm here for a reason. I’ve never done this before. I’ve never lived through a pandemic. I’ve never had a business during a crisis like this. There is no rule-book. People may look at me like I’m an idiot. Hell, I might look back and think I was an idiot. But I know that I will never regret taking care of the people that matter to me. Because business is family. And family is everything. #justQ 🖖🏽🖤 …see more

With Joe Biden now leading in Georgia and expected to get the majority of the few remaining votes, it is just a matter of time until the media declares him president-elect. What follows will be an important -- and widely-watched test -- of America's democracy, legal system and social fabric. #elections #elections2020 #election2020 #electionresults …see more

I've never seen a brief that is too short. The whole art of brief writing is in winning the very difficult discussions and making the very hard decisions about what to remove. All too often (and increasingly) they become a dumping ground of "we've got this too and it may also help"

Interview with Charlie Hoehn : "THE OPPOSITE OF PLAY ISN'T WORK, IT'S DEPRESSION." There’s a strong evolutionary component to play. Our bodies were built to hunt and gather and move. Humans aren’t meant to stay still. “The research is pretty clear. They have done experiments. They’ve deprive animals of play—they give them love, nurturing, food, shelter, all the things they need to survive— but they deprive them of play, the animal inevitably grows up to be socially and emotionally crippled," Charlie said. Charlie calls it “chronic-play deprivation.” And I think many people suffer from that. It’s the transition from childhood to adulthood. Statistically, children laugh an average of 300 times a day. But adults laugh an average of 3-5 times a day. Charlie said he was approaching life “so seriously and joylessly. And very much in terms of what’s the output, what’s the income, what’s the money pay-off.” What’s the pay-off? I had to repeat that line. Since there never was a pay-off. It’s always a false promise society wants us to believe. So I asked, “How did you learn to play again?” THREE STEPS TO PLAY STEP #1: http://bit.ly/2tK3wFK …see more

I believe in the impossible. That change, even at a mass level, only comes from the inside of each individual. That if each person tried to remain physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually healthy, then the country itself will rise to new heights never seen before in the civilization of man: a height without delusions, without fantasy notions of a "better life" that turn out to be just lies, without complicated mechanisms to control the masses and where mediocrity is not rewarded with power over the creators... http://bit.ly/2tpTlqc …see more

I wanted to raise some money. My neighbor said, “Meet my boss. He runs a hedge fund.” I met the boss. He gave me the tour of the office. Everyone was buying and selling stocks. Then we sat in the boss’s glass office. We could see all the employees and they could see us. He sat down. “So, tell me, James. What can I do for you?” . . . #writing #judging #lifestyle #billionaire #characters …see more

If you’re getting into public speaking👇🏽🎤 1). Don’t shy away from the smaller events. They often lead to large scale events. My first one was in front of about 50 people. That’s lead to VidCon, TEDx, and the upcoming INBOUND. 2). It will vary based off your goals, but don’t just speak to the same people. Barely anyone in this audience knew me. Which was an awesome opportunity to get my name out there. 3). Don’t ever let anyone convince you that you need to be a certain way. We can all definitely improve (I know I can), but find & develop your own style. 4). Remember that you’re speaking to people. It’s not about the numbers. 5). You’re not going to be perfect. You’ll mess up (a lot). Learn from those mistakes. 6). Don’t take all the advice you hear from people like me. Test everything and find what works for you. What lessons would you add? #justQ 🖖🏽🖤 #entrepreneurship #business …see more

What sets apart the founders of some of the largest companies in the world? 1. Each one is a voracious learner and focuses on a continuous learning curve. 2. Each one is a polymath - someone who becomes competent in at least three diverse domains and integrates them into a skill set. In my attempt to continuously learn I carve time to listen to TED talks and read books on different topics like history, human psychology, origins of the world and science. …see more
